[Question] "Save code hashing/encrypting"

Unlike the mess-up that was my other thread, I have an idea on how I can do this! Woot?

Yeah, I don't mean the end where you get asdfjasjkfaks as a code... I mean the end where you shuffle the numbers to end up with asdfjasjkfaks. I've been given several unprotected maps on occasions and they have administrator commands protected by a password which is protected by this weird lookin' formula which is jumbled up pows, roots, multiplications, divisions 'n' the likes all over the place.

Now, my question is - if any person good enough to crack certain types of protection on a map is good enough to work out the codes, is it worth the stall of making those weird formulae?

Also, I'd like to ask how they work. I've seen some of the save/load systems on WC3C and I still don't 100% understand how they work.

Thanks ahead.

Cracking a code is a lot harder than cracking a map. Hence, beyond a certain level of security, it just makes it a whole lot easier to simply crack the map, which is impossible to stop.

Your best chance if you want to crack a code is injecting stuff afterwards or while it runs.

The problem with cracking a code is it is really hard to go backwards. The easiest way is to get access to the source code. Even then, with code obfuscation, reading the source code may not yield any better results than input => output comparrison.

So... it's advisable that I do encrypt said code?

Yes. However I'd just hack the map and insert some code. Cracking it would be totally unnecessary.

admin commans can be hash protected, only because password data not stored inside map.

save codes must store data in map.
