Actually this is a moddeling problem, but i guess the moderators would move it here anyways... I'm trying to get a quicker way of exporting from Max versions higher than 5, thus i tried a new way: 1. Modelling in 3DSMax 9 2. Export as .obj 3. Convert to .ms3d with Biturn 4. Convert to .mdx with Magos 5. Use MDXPather for Texturepathes 6. Open with Magos, setting material properties, calculating extents Why i do this? Well, none of the script i found wanted to extract the material channels and its a pain in the ass to recreate every material channel and change every geoset's texture in Magos! The way i described above everythign works fine... Except for some strange shading errors (see pic) Although we are in the .mdl editing corner here (well, the problem hopefully will be anywhere in the .mdl i hope), please tell me what i did wrong while moddeling, as i dont want to edit every .mdl additionally to what i have to do now already! I attached the .mdx and the .mdl aswell! Thx in advance! |

I don't think this is an MDL editing problem. Even if it is, there's no practical way to solve it via model editing; if there are issues with shading, then it's an issue in the raw geoset data. I suspect it's an issue with your strange tree of conversion software; I know Biturn is a really really old system, and I have doubts as to the quality of its Milkshape conversion. I used to use it a long long time ago, but if I had noticed shading errors back then I wouldn't have understood them and would have ignored it. I'd suggest you try to find another conversion route. Download the free trial of Milkshape, directly import the OBJ there and export using Guesst's exporter to see if you can find out where the issue is actually coming from. |

Biturn is shoddy these days... I'd recommend the same as RAO. |

well, milkshape didnt help, i am tired of searching for a good way to export... i used dex and some other scripts which worked half and fixed everything in magos! It works now, but i sacrificed 2 days of my life to try to find a better solution and thats... frustrating... |

Then this really is a modelling issue, not an editing issue. Moved. |
