Lazy + Bum = Me

Hi, everyone. . .
Section 1 of this post will just be an introduction as to why it has become more difficult to create well-crafted maps, so skip to
Section 2 for some innovative ideas that I want to submit and try to work on with you! :ggani:.

Section 1:
----------------------------------------------------------
The reason for posting this message is to comment on how hard it is to create maps for WarCraft 3. Its difficulty is not based on knowing HOW the map editor works, rather the higher expectations for maps makes it difficult to catch people's attention. StarCraft is a simple game with a simple map editor, but it still has a lot of power. It was easy to be creative with maps because there were many more limitations, so any way that got you around those limitations was awesome! It was an awesome discovery, and it was also fun to play. That's how StarCraft maps were unique. We're now overwhelmed on the War3 Editor with so much power that we don't know how to manipulate it! Terrain must look very interesting, triggers depend on the game, and character selection has to be vast, and spells have to look cool too, and why not add a lot of special effects? And while you're at it, throw in a storyline because otherwise people won't want to play. What I think we should do is share ideas in one post about general map ideas that could be truly entertaining, because at this point, I have seen so few entertaining maps that I look like this :////.

Section 2:
Here are map ideas I've come up with just really quickly:

1. Take-off of Conker's Bad Fur Day:
- Two teams: Immigrants vs. Teddies.
- Players may only control 1 Immigrant/Teddy at a time.
- Time limit per each game.
- Small sized map where immigrants come from the shore and try to escape to safety at the other side of the map. Every safe immigrant scores a point for Immigrant's team.
- Immigrants can only run, no weapons.
- Every immigrant killed by teddies will score a point for Teddy's team. Teddies should choose from various weapons, possibly: throwing knives, sniper, bazooka, uzi, etc.
- My edit to idea: add in Stations for the teddies instead of giving them actual guns; they would be towers that teddies can step on a beacon to control, and then step on another beacon or something to exit it. Teddies would have throwing knives at all times but they would be sort of weak.
- Powerups (items) will be on the map for immigrant's use only. Such as: temp speed boost.

2. Recruiting Day - "Reverse GTA"
- One allied team this time, but everyone is competing against each other! This team will be known as The Recruits
- Recruits are New Detectives that start off with a certain jurisdiction like "theft" or something.
- AI will control criminals who will be controlled to commit various types of crimes
- Various crimes would include: Burglary (of residencies / stores), Grand Theft (of banks), Auto Theft (of cars), Assault / Battery (of persons), Homicide (of persons), Trespassing/Unlawful Entry (of private property, obviously a lesser offense), Arson, etc.
- The detectives kill criminals within their jurisdictions for what is known as Badge Points (stored in the leaderboard, of course) .
- Detectives may purchase new jurisdictions (in which criminals may be more valuable for Badge Points) with their current Badge Points.
- However, Badge Points will begin to be deducted every so many seconds after a Detective's last criminal kill due to inactivity.
- Killing a criminal outside of your jurisdictions will result in a large penalty from your Badge Points
- Reaching 0 Badge Points = YOU'RE FIRED! Play again and don't suck so much...
- I guess collecting all the jurisdictions means you're hired, and that you win!
- Also, it would be fun to have different environments that players can choose from at the start of the game, like how often criminals will be committing crimes? In effect, this will make the game Easy, Medium, or Hard. (Tons of crimes, Good # of Crimes, Moderate # of Crimes)
- Another fun kinda thing you could add in there is maybe police cars / tanks / planes (that players can drive around) and various weapons to kill the baddies with :ggani:
- Edit: MORE JURISDICTIONS: Cybercrime (computer hacking / viruses), Drug Trafficking (drug dealers), Extortion, Fraud/Counterfeiting, Illegal Intoxication/DWI (minors / idiots)

Anyway, post your opinions or any ideas if you have your own that you could share.

haha, you're funny. I'm into good, well made and balanced RPG maps myself. I'm making one, and have plans for some others.

RE your map ideas: original and entertaining maps are always good. The biggest concern for me is whether or not the map is well made and balanced. Next comes whether its interesting plot and terrain wise i guess. Challenging maps that require strategy tend to be fun for me. Like Valley of Dissent. I hardly lose on that map because i have strategy and that's fun.

your map ideas are entertaining, so people will play them, and if they are well made as well they will last for a while.

Thank you, fr0ggE. I agree with you about balancing, interesting terrain, and plot. For The Recruits map I was thinking of giving it a moderate size and filling it as one large city with various buildings like residential areas, commercial areas, and industrial areas, etc. What I agree more with you on is that they are "challenging maps that require strategy." Also for the "reverse GTA" map, I was suggesting vehicles, weapons, and other equipment. Vehicles such as tanks/police cars, weapons such as uzis or snipers, and equipment like Radar, which, depending on the quality of the radar, will ping the location of criminals of which you have jurisdiction over, or maybe some armor vests, considering homicidal maniacs aren't just going to want to have a cup of coffee with you. That reminds me, there'll be a hospital, too! (Can be quite expensive, though). Another unmentioned feature was that you earn a minimum Salary, but is increased and determined by your current Badge Points on pay-day! Shweeet! By the way, the reason why I'm telling you people my ideas is because I am a lazy bum, and I will need a small team to work on this stuff with me so that it comes out as a high quality map. I need someone to collaborate with in order to gain different opinions and appeal to many crowds. And if I can't get that, I'm willing to let people make maps based on my ideas so long as I can get a little credit somewhere :D

Welcome aboard dude, I am also Lazy so I didn't read your post. Too little time, and lots to do.
You need to make your subjects a little more description and post more onto what you want to say. I am not saying you have to. It's just I lose interest real quick and don't have time for aka NAKED WOMAN.

Understandable, DKSlayer. I edited the top and outlined the main reason for posting in red for people like yourself. I also removed some of the humor in it for people who would rather just read, and get to the point without entertainment (I know I can't).

Anyway, what I would like to do is start simple with the Conker's Bad Fur Day map. Is there anyone who is likes to create terrain, make units, or work with triggers? As for myself, I can do all three but I have a hard time being persistent when I work by myself. Anyone who would like to participate in this first project, I don't think it should take more than 2 weeks at most to complete.

Main outline of the map:
- Two teams: Immigrants vs. Teddies.
- There will be an in-game selection to be Immigrant or Teddy. It is a 2 to 1 ratio of Immigrants to Teddies.
- Time limit per each game.
- Players may only control 1 Immigrant/Teddy at a time.
- Should be a small map maybe 64x64, or 64x96
- Immigrants come from the shore and try to escape to 2 designated safety point at the other side of the map.
- My edit to idea: add in Towers for the teddies instead of giving them actual guns; they would be controllable by stepping on a beacon, and then step on another beacon or something to exit it. Teddies would have throwing knives at all times but they would be sort of weak.
- Powerups (items) will be on the map for immigrant's use only. Such as: temp speed boost.
- Teddies would be able to lay traps like mines, stasis wards, or a detector, which would ping the minimap of immigrants if one is within proximity of the detector

(If anyone is offended by this theme, we could change it to something like Trees vs Lumberjacks).
