I wanna make a runemagic system like the deathknight in wow has.

My idea:
If unit casts a spell trigger the (passive) rune ability (has cooldown) if rune ability can be used cast spell and trigger rune ability, if not do nothing.

I can guess what he wants:
When you cast spell X it puts a passive spell Y onto cooldown for Z number of seconds. If you try cast when it is on cooldown it wont work.

I think that is pretty much it

Why not just give spell X the cooldown of spell Y?

I dunno, maybe he wants to put spell Y onto an item, so you can only cast, for example 'pyroblast' when you have a fire rune, but you could also use a fire and water rune to cast 'steam cannon'. But only when they arent on cooldown!

He's talking about the rune system from wow, basically, it uses runes to cast spells instead of mana, so the Deathknight has 6 runes, 2 Frost, 2 Blood and 2 Unholy, and spells cost certain runes to cast, for example, Plauge Strike takes 1 Unholy, so you can cast it twice before waiting on the rune cooldown.

How are runes and their cooldowns to be represented, though? As items? On a multiboard? Not at all? Should a player be able to cast all spells that his currently active runes allow or must one still learn them first?

I still don't know how you want it to work. It would help if you wrote a more detailed explanation. So the hero learns runes... but how does he pick what spells to cast? There's hardly enough room on the command card for both the runes and the spells; or are the spells then displayed as items or what?
