My first map - Ice Melee

Hello!

I hope i am placing this in the correct forum... I've made a map after reading and trying out some stuff with the editor and hope i will get some comments on what i can improve on it!

It's my first map and not a Campaign or RPG or... ,but just a melee map!

- 2 to 4 players
- Goldmines in the upper and lower center so that players can expand
- The goldmine in the middle is heavily guardedn but rewards more gold

The map is very simmetrical (is that spelled correctly?), but i like it to have it that way so that i'm (and the players) are sure of a fair fight...

I hope to see many comments on it, be it bad (probably ) or good ( )! I'm here to learn and i'll accept both!

Hmm lets begin:
- You have to put neutral creeps to every goldmine, so that if only 2 player play the map, the unused goldmines are "protected". (WC3 will automatically remove creeps from used positions).
- Ur map needs much more variety considering Terrain ..use much more different Tiles, use some height to build hills and stuff.
- Altough its usually a very bad idea to use mass trees to fill mass space(left and right of the map), if you have to do something like that you have either made the map too big, or placed to few other stuff, like shops, creeps, goldmines (map is too big)
-Those creeps protecting the middle mine ..wont drop any items...beside that you should normally only use 1 (-2) "big" creep(s) and add more smaller ones...
-You should add creeps to the shops aswell
-And why are there many trees growing in the water ? thats unnatural ...trees will not grow in rivers ..will they ?
-And in such cold water there wont grow any reed, use doodads fitting to such temperatures ...
-You should not use any special stuff like the Sunwell only because it looks good ...it doesnt fit to the theme of your map ...
-You although have mass free space which is totally empty and boring in your map (between starting positions and middle of the map)...i would say ..the map is too big ?!

..before making another map look at standard melee maps first...
-see how the authors used different tiles, and extensive the height tool
-doodads
-and check the chances in normal melee maps are that an item is dropped (notice the relation between creeplevel and itemlevel)
-normal maps for 4 players are 128x128 big..

Now that is a great reply! Thank you for giving so much comments on my map...

I guess i will redo the whole map - as in start over again - and keep each point in mind while making it...

Is it possible to re-use this thread when i have a new version ready or is it required to make a new one?

Thank you again for your fast reply!

You can either re-use the thread, but if it takes longer than a few weeks, I would recommend creating a new one. I'm glad to see that your enthusiastic.
