Ok a while ago I played Tomb of Jarachon map, what the games about is irrelevant. I decided then to make my own Adventure/Dugeon Crawl. A while later I learned that Obsidian Depths was in production. Since Obsidian Depths is clearly alot more well designed that all other previous Dungeons, Should I simply give up on this map or what? |

Yes. |

You don't have to give up. If you think it's just a waste of time and nothing else, you shouldn't bother. If you think that this is something that you would do for yourself, then I don't see why not. |

Uhh, that would be mean to Dusk, especially if you actually like your idea. Dusk doesn't release maps so that no map like it will ever again be made... |

you can invite your self onto dusk's team to be spiritual support. maybe he'll put u in the credits. |

There is no real reason to 'give up'. You could: a) Give it a very different style of gameplay. or b) Accept that it won't be as good as Dusk's. or c) Make it better. :P |

Or maybe you should stop caring at all about what other people are making, and just make it for the joy of making something? |

Yeah, that too. ^^ |

You guys all missed the point, except for Vexorian. Based on the fact that he is asking this question, the appropriate answer is yes. If he was doing this for fun alone, he wouldn't have even bothered posting. |

As far as I'm concerned, you should never give up on your goals just because someone else is doing it. You don't know that what you create will suck, maybe you should put more time into it and you'll do way better than I do! Who knows? I know for certain that I look forward to other maps surpassing mine in certain regards, because in that inferiority I find motivation to strive to be even better at what I do. Through being bested by other maps, I create better maps myself. I say nay, don't give up. Do what you enjoy, who cares if someone else is already doing it. I'd have never made an AoS map (Or two..) if I were only concerned with what others before me had made. |

This is a well thought out and presented paragraph, one that I hope is not lost on the OP. |

Or if all the many hours you spent making it were enjoyable. |
