So I just got MilkShape and I'm supposed to be creating a crawl animation for a model. I got a few questions. 1.) I imported a demon hunter model into MilkShape and I noticed that there weren't any bones or joints? Is this normal? 2.) When I imported the demon hunter model, it didn't have any animations as well and had a total of 30 animation frames. Is this normal too? 3.) How can I animate the demon hunter if it has no bones? Do I have to create ones myself? 4.) How come in War3ModelEditor, there are bones in the Node Manager, whilst there aren't any in MilkShape? 5.) After animating the demon hunter in MilkShape, can I use AnimTransfer to transfer the crawl animation into another unmodified demon hunter model? 6.) When importing an MDX file, which of the following boxes should I check/uncheck? []Meshes []Reverse Axis []Materials []Copy textures to MDX Folder |

1. Yes. The importer doesn't do skeletons. 2. You can't have animations without bones (at least in terms of modern games and Milkshape). 3. You'll have to animate it from scratch yourself, yes. 4. The Milkshape importer doesn't do skeletons. Even if it could, most Warcaft interpolations are in a format Milkshape can't even use. 5. No, because Guesst's Milkshape exporter exports to Linear or Bezier for translation, and linear for rotation -- all Warcraft models use Hermite on almost all their bones. 6. Leave them as they are, maybe don't copy the textures; it depends entirely on your work-flow, I mostly export textures seperately myself and don't store BLPs anywhere outside Warcraft. |

Ah I see. Thank you very much sir Rao. Btw. I tried importing a marine model and it gives me errors. "ERROR READING MODEL FILE!!! Mesh01 : Section PTYP is longer than expected Mesh02 : Section PTYP is longer than expected No valid mesh found, model not imported" What does this mean? |

"A" marine model? As far as I'm aware, this error comes from customised models exported from somewhere that structures the 'Faces' section of a geoset wrongly (well, not wrongly, but... differently). Try converting to MDL and back to MDX with YobGul's. |

Hmm I imported the Wc3 Marine model, and also one of abriko's model, which is based on the wc3 marine model so it doesn't work too, but it has more "Section PTYP is longer than expected" errors. |

As I said, converting them to MDL and back again with YobGul's should fix it (if it is indeed the error I think it is). Even re-saving from Magos' might work. |
