Summary:
The modern island model package is being designed around giving an extremely flexible model package for terraining a third-world country or island. The amount of models and textures in this package is expected to raise above 1,000, all while keeping the space at 2mb.

Very few things have been done like this before - and doubtful if anything on this scale as.
You may also recognize me as the maker of the Modern Objects and Light Package, a massive model package designed to create realistic inside environments.

Features:
  • Massive amount of models to choose from
  • Wide ranging of models - from lockers to bathtubs, to even fishing nets and chainlink fences
  • House models for both shanties and modern houses expected.
  • Shanty style models give extreme flexibility to house creation (see farther below)
  • Limit of 2mb for main model package
  • A side-pack will contain more industrial style objects, perfect for a factory setting. limited at 500kb
  • Textures acquired legally and used legally. Unlike some project hosted here .

Progress: Work In Progress. Here are some various pictures.
Warning: Images may be large!
Hidden information:

The concept styling of the house. Models and ground texture no longer used.

Current selection of shanty-walls and roofs. Expected to grow by 5%.

A very quick, and very bad looking wall made out of some pieces.

The current list of boards. 154 of them total!

A finished house I made using the current selection of models (limited soley to walls + wood)

A dumpster I did last night - I was surprised by how well it looks. Sadly, the texture it has on it is bugged.

Misc.:
Here is a small image list I made a while back. It shows how I constructed the house, step by step. It's a lengthy process but I'm very glad with the results. And that's without extra objects!

Q/A

I don't think this will be 2mb..
I'm afraid it will be. While I'll let it go up to 2.1mb, but nothing beyond that.

These models look pretty bad and are fairly low res!

Bloody hell mate, you're getting a lot out of this. The models will need to be low res to give me more space to work with, and textures are low res (64x64) because anything more isn't worth it, and anything less is too little.

I want to join this project!
Sorry mate, working solo here.

What can I do to help?
You can suggest some models for me to do. Seriously. I need some more, I can't think of them all by myself.
  • Must be not-animated
  • Must be modern (nothing futuristic or unrealistic)
  • Include pictures if you have a hard time describing it.
To get some suggestions, here is my current list of TODO.

So, suggest anything you can think of. Look outside - what do you think could be added? Do you see chimneys? Perhaps some outhouse vents spinning? Maybe you'll notice some car doors laying on a house. Blinds? Fishing Rods? Think of what's in your house. I'm sticking to large things (beds, desks, tables, ect) along with minor objects.

Go crazy, it can't hurt to suggest something! I really need them!

This is completely unfair, the mods here do their damned best to make sure all resources are, if not entirely player made, than from the Public Domain...

You will find that The Hive Workshop, however, hosts resources which tend from suspicious to blatantly unclean

The sites are confused with one another often, dont worry about it...

as for the pack, it looks interesting and well done, mostly i dont do any modern stuff, but if i ever did, this would be one of the cornerstones of the map

I did not mean to attack every project here, however there is a very popular one that I highly doubt the legibility of.

Well, Windex.

Your going to be hard pressed to stay under 2MB, no?

I just love the models and the hole idea you have going on here. Cant wait to see more results.

The current map is approximately 1.1mb in w3x. That's not too much. Especially considering that I have 667 imports right now, and almost every texture which I'm going to use.

My older project (Modern objects and lighting) reached around 2.3mb. Many textures in it where reserved for walls, and hardly used again. Also, many objects were uncannily high in polies.

With a lower amount of textures, better usage of these textures, and lower polies I believe I can fit more in this package.

So yes, I believe it won't be too much of a problem to keep it at 2mb.

These look very nice.

Which project has ripped resources?

I'm not going to say which project I have strong suspicions of ripping textures, because of the large baclash. Even if textures in it have an uncanny texture resmbelence to a game I played a while back. Down to the wood notches.

Bump, would be very nice to have suggestions on objects. Just create a list!

Project has halted because my world editor has stopped working.

While the project moved quickly after the problem was solved, I have once again paused it.

My other modern object lighting package has been nothing but trouble.
For example, on the hive workshop I have been accused of stealing the textures for a third time (and giving proof I didn't) and now I'm being accused of stealing the models. The same models I spent dozens of hours making and losing/replacing hundreds of.

From what I understand..
The topic I have there is under threat of deletion because the pack is final.
In order to keep it, I must submit the pack to the resources.
But oups! In order to do so, I must submit every single model in the pack (over 700) along with it's texture and an image. Great.

This has sapped the motivation I had for this project, which I really enjoyed doing. But if my work is refused due to ignorance and stupidity than I won't make them anymore.
