Posting to see if I could get some general advice else perhaps even some assistance. Terraining isn't exactly my specialty so looking for a few tips.

Tileset: Ashenvale?
Theme: Razed & burnt down structures, scorched ground, maimed bodies, plundered & looted remains etc.

A few general pointers on what type of doodads etc. you'd use would be very helpful. Any old sample maps you might have lurking about would ofcourse be fantastic!

thx

Those broken down houses / windmill / scout towers would be pretty good. some blighted ground. Trash. Could always put some tilted fences / fallen over ones (tilt them using the negative rolls) just so it seems like it was more than just burnt. Those bone piles get the point across. And oh, maybe some small flames.

use smoke smudge to make smouldering remains and rubble.

mix up the doodads, and try to avoid placing lots of the same doodads in one wave.

Dont put very many or any animal corpses/wagons/stuff, raiders would have taken all of that

Scorched Remains is awesome, use it lots

put some untouched or barely damaged buildings in the town, in a proper village, most of the houses are a good distance from one another, I doubt a raider would bother to go to every bloody one and light it....

Hint at a story, something notable happening.. corpses lining the street in front of burned houses, a head on a spear in the middle of a pile of burned bodies...

The Raiders dragged the men out of the houses and gave them the choice of slavery or execution... an old raider who left the band and betrayed them lived in the town, by chance he was found, his head was stuck on a spike as a warning to any who might follow his footsteps...

I don't have a sample map myself, but I remember one that fits perfectly to your description.
