Yesterday, I was mapping as normal. Wasn't doing any fancy - wansn't modifying files, wasn't messing things I shouldn't be. I save and exit newgen, an hour later I decide to get back to work on it. The shortcut wouldn't work - Which is strange because I was only doing modeling work in 3dmax during my 'break'. This is the first time it's ever done this. I searched several forums - while not finding my problem, I found a workaround. By using we.bat I could jumpstart newgen. This worked for 3-4 times. Than, that too stopped working. It showed the blackbox half a second and stopped entirely. So, I decided to 'reinstall' newgen. Searched the computer clean for every file which could be associated with newgen. Than I used CCleaner to clean up the registries and delete the recycle bin. Downloaded 1.5b, installed into computer>user>username Try the shortcut - nothing. Try we.bat - get an error message. So, what could be the problem? While it's likely I could go back 2 days on a recovery, I want to find the bottom of this problem. What happened? Did my virus software (webroot) become self aware and decided it'd be fun to piss me off? |

When something like this happened to me, it was because my antivirus decided to delete a file of newgen's without telling me. Reinstalling JNGP fixed it right up, so I'd recommend that. |

Yup - seems webroot did become self aware and decide to piss me off. Thankfully, webroot is very helpful in telling me what items are what in the quarantine. "Malware" is such a great description. Disabled webroot and - it starts up. Thanks for the help rising! |
