I seen the map section only accepted non-melee map. The thing that puzzle me was. Why not make a section that accept a high quality melee map as well? Melee map should not be cast aside just because all it require was the skill of terraining. A proper item drop, creep placing and balance resources is a crucial factor for a melee map as well. Of course, probably there might be a answer of "Nobody play melee map". But, the question was. Why should we ignore a good map just because of the category? I could probably be wrong about the current map section as well. But, I would be interesting to know about it. |

I will agree that there is effort that goes into making a melee map. However, it's more a question of relative effort. What you must do to make a functioning melee map is really like 5% of what's required to design and create a map of your own design. That and melee maps don't really bring much originality. They offer lots of strategy and perhaps a new tactic or two due to the terrain, but it's not true innovation or ingenuity. You're not adding any new dynamics to the map by creating additional units, techtrees, heroes, or anything of that matter. If you have a hankering for new melee maps, by all means start your own thread in General Development or something to showcase your work; I'm sure you'll get some critique and feedback from others who like to play custom melee maps too. Nothing's stopping you from doing that; the maps just don't belong in the map database. Even try the terraining forum; perhaps you've got a really nice looking melee map. I'm sure that you could make an acceptable thread there too. |

As far as I know, adding a custom stuff into it would no longer consider a melee map but a altered melee (An altered melee also known as non-melee map). A melee map was suppose to focus on terraining and doesn't add any custom stuff into it. Of course, what we talk here was about a nice melee map that doesn't have any opportunity to be submit to this site due to the genre. |

That was my point. I wasn't saying to do that; I was saying you can't. |

More or less the terraining section would suit this, as Pyro said. |

I've brought this up before and I came to the same conclusion Pyro did. The terrain section, more or less, covers all terrain involved and the general dev' section covers the races themselves. |

Won't ppl mistaken it as a gallery? As I known, those terrain we usually seen at terrain section are non-playable and for display. |

There are no rules forbidding melee maps, I think the biggest reason there are no approved melee maps is that no one has ever submitted them. |

I see. Maybe because nobody submit because they think this site only accept non-melee map? Who know, maybe somebody have such a though. |

We actually do have an approved, quasi-melee map in Abyssium. I think it's possible to get one approved, it just requires substantial work involved. We're definitely not going to approve a melee map that's just Blizzard's four races with one of them replaced by some new one. If all you've done for your map is create a new terrain for standard melee gaming, I really see no reason it should be in the map database in the first place. It'd make more sense in terrain somewhere. I guess the fact that no one's submitted such a map that was well-terrained is the reason we've never dealt with it. |

Abyssium was fall under the category of altered melee, also known as non-melee map. Hmm, having a section for a melee map won't be a bad idea. It was like how we generally have a cinematic section. After all, what harm could it does? |

If an overwhelming influx of melee map submissions come to the forums, then we will consider that. Until then, let's just sit and wait. |

1 question. If there is no section for a melee map, how do they submit it? There should at least be a section for a melee map. Shall the section been dead for quite a long time, then we can close it due to inactivity. It was sort of like a test run. |

They could submit it to the Map Submission forum. No rule says that they cannot submit melee maps. If they start submitting it to Map Submissions (Which would make sense), then we'll see about a section for it. |

It isn't that you can't submit them, it's just they can't really ever meet the level of greatness needed in our map submission area... If we get enough interest I could make a melee map section. If you want one, post here. |
