Animation Question

Let me preface this. I know absolutely nothing about animations.

How hard would it be to give critters attack animations? Like just enough to move their head as if to bite or something?

Not that hard. Read and follow the animation tutorials that come with max, search google for "animation principles" and you should be fine.
