Resource production

Playing some terrible games on B.Net, I decided to make a map based solely on building a small base (food, unit upgrades, resource upgrades, towers, shop) and using mercenary armies to fight the opposing team

Each player would have a small base on the same side of the field as their team and attack control points throughout the field to take them and take advantage of their unique bonuses or mercenary types to take the fight to the enemy. Heroes would not revive and players could hire as many as they liked.

The problem im having is resource production, I cant decide how to give players their resources. I dont want them moving around trying to control goldmines to send hordes of workers at or looking for trees, but i dont want a steady, unalterable income either...
