![]() ![]() Recruiting for Warcraft III The Frozen Throne map project I am looking for a new team of mappers, with a creative mind and interest in working together as a team to accomplish the goal of making this map a reality. First I would like to introduce myself. My name is Frederik Bering, I am 21 years old and live, born and raised, in Copenhagen, Denmark. I am currently studying IT-engineer on Danish Technical University. I have a background as amateur (by that, I mean not making money from it) web designer for almost 8 years, using such languages as html, php and css. I previously had a friend who took care of the graphic part, but now I am doing that myself, using Photoshop/Illustrator. I also use Fireworks and Dreamweaver for web designing. Warcraft III TFT map related, I know how to code in vJASS and will mainly take part in that. I have had a break of 3 months from wc3 map editing and now I am finally back with this project. I hope to bring in a small, but great team of mappers and make this project a success. My role on the team will be to lead the project. I will manage tasks, deadlines, meetings, ideas/concept, game data and everything else to make this team work at a high rate. I am working on a website where we can will be able to keep track of all the data, maps and so forth. We will have our own private forum where we can post a lot of different things to keep each other updated. Though, we will be holding meetings once in a while to discuss the ideas and concept and such things. After the meetings I will upload a resume on the website. We will probably learn a few things about how we communicate, but right now we will be using Windows messenger and maybe later on IRC. I might even put up a ventrilo (voice program), where we can talk too. Anyways, my role will be Project leader and since I can code in vJASS, I will help out with the coding if the lead programmer got something he would like me to do. But programming-wise, the lead programmer is in charge. ![]() Available roles on the team
The reason all above roles has concept designing in their title, is very simple. I want the whole team to take part in creating this map and come up with ideas. Again - it is important that everyone is creative! ![]() About the map Before we go in to details about requirements, it is important that you know what this project is all about and that you find it interesting. It is important to remember here, that everything is still on the drawing table and nothing is decided yet! The whole map concept is inspired by the first person shooter game called Left 4 Dead. For those who don't know that game, it is about four survivors (humans) who fight masses of zombies with various weapons. Playing Left 4 Dead in versus, you are in a four versus four game. First one team take the role as survivors and the other team the role as zombies. When the survivors reach a certain point in the level or fail to, the roles are swapped and the same part of the level is played. When the other team reaches the point or fail, they swap again and play the next part of the map. The map has about 5 parts.. Now, do not worry! We are not going to try to create a shooter game in a wc3 map! What I have in mind is that a group of heroes will fight against undeads. The group of heroes could be a paladin, a witch hunter and whatever we can come up with of interesting characters and skill sets. Each player on the hero team will control one hero each, who all have their own unique skill set which will aid them in the fight against the undeads. This requires the team to cooperate and combine their skills to gain the advantage. Now the undead team will have one master, who controls all the hordes of undeads, while the rest of the team will spawn as undead champions (vampires, zombies and what not) who is a lot stronger than the traditional hordes of undeads, but not as strong as the heroes. The undead team (except from the master) will also only control 1 hero, but if they die they will respawn after a certain amount of time as a new undead champion (random choice). The map will offer a lot of different objectives from the heroes, which they need to complete while they progress through the masses of undeads. These events throughout the whole map will be, like everything else, decided by the team! The map will be dedicated for competitive game between two teams/clans, which then have to come up with strategies and work together on both sides. We will also try implementing the concept of when the heroes fail or reach a certain check point, the roles will be switch and throughout the map the roles of the two teams will be switched. Everything is on the drawing board - nothing has been decided yet! We as a team need to come up with
![]() Requirements First of all, it is important that you find the concept interesting and filled with potential! Secondly, as you may have noticed this is a work in progress and creative minds are needed. So you need to be creative! It is also important, that you are sure that you have the time for this project! I am not saying there will schedules and though rules. But if you are already in a map project or something like that, we do not need you - sorry. But we will have deadlines, since we want progress. So make sure you have time to be a part of this project! Here are some requirements for the different roles Lead programming You have years of experience with coding and knows how to code vJASS and know how to make most things - abilities etc... Having a background from another programming language would a plus. Having some map (doesn’t have to be a playable map.. maybe just test maps that shows abilities or whatever) to show is a huge plus too. Lead terrainer Again - years of experience with making wonderful terrains. We want the atmosphere to be just right for this map, and therefore you need to be able to create grunge and horrific terrains which will suit the theme. Having some terrain to show us is a MUST as Lead terrainer. Programming and terrainer This role is more of a all around mapper. You have created maps before, which functions well. You know your way around coding in JASS and making small environmental things for terrain. General requirements
![]() Contact If you would be interesting in joining the project, let's have a talk over the message board or MSN (see e-mail below). If you have any questions or feedback, please reply to the post. Thank you. - Cobaal [email protected] |

Read the rules, link stripped until you have enough info here to satisfy them. If not updated to meet the rules will be deleted. |

In general your requirements are exceptionally high for someone with zero track record and apparently nothing to show us. What can you do? That's the question any decent prospective team member is going to ask. And from the post, it doesn't really seem good. You claim to be able to code in Jass, but vJass is the order of the day (really, any decent coder would now probably rather peel their own fingernails off than code in Jass these days). So I'd suggest either put up or lower expectations. |

Well ... I am not sure. I just think it will be best due to the time zones, so meetings and other stuff fits in the best way. Quote:
I do code vJass. It was a typo. I have not released any maps, but is currently working on one while I try to establish a team for this project. Just because I am in need of a well experienced programmer, doesn't mean I have to be just as good as him/her. In fact, I expect him/her to be better than me. But that doesn't mean I cannot contribute to the programming part, since I can code in vJass. But my main role here is to lead the project by managing tasks, deadlines, meetings, notes, ideas/concept, data and so forth. But I guess I could add some of this information to the description. But the point is, I don't have to forfill the high standards of the requirements I have for a lead programmer. If I forfilled them I would probably not be looking for a lead programmer. - cobaal |

Yea, vJass features are something must have. I dont know about this. It sounds pretty good in paper, but since you dont have anything done yet.. I see that you are looking for terrainers and coders, so I assume that you are going to handle most of the object editor stuff by yourself, am I rite? |

Lol, no project ever finished in WC3 with a team leader like that (at least that I've heard of). For good reason. Management isn't a position you can have on a modding team; you need to be hands on and pushing forward with the map and leading the way, or the map will die. There's a reason most finished maps are almost utterly done (gameplay wise) by one person. |

This is true, dedicated design teams are for designing new games or making complex mods for less user friendly games (Gears of War, Half Life) A team needs a center to orbit around, someone who will get the map done with or without their help. People dont want to join a project that relies on them, they want to join a project that will be done with or without them... |
