(Not sure this is the right forum, but Artist's Discussion and Queries seemed like more of a Request forum... If I'm wrong, my bad, just move it I guess.) ~~~ Alright, so I'm having a custom Troll model worked on. I had the "bright" idea to be a little original and asked for Dreadlocks instead of the ubiquitous Mohawk. Unfortunately, the early WIPs look pretty... Well, they just look a little odd, to be honest (and I'm not trying to trash the modeller in question, which is why I'm being purposefully vague). So my question(s) are: (1) Is doing Dreadlocks even feasible? This is a regular unit (albeit a high-tier one), so it's not like a hero with Dreadlocks, or a campaign hero which would have a lot of closeups. But is it worth the animation for swaying? Is there a way to make it both look good and take up the least number of polies? Etc. (2) If "no" to the above, what kind of hairdo is a good idea? I'd like to (as stated above) break away from the ever-present Mohawk in the Trolls. For reference, this unit is a sort of "cream of the crop" Troll; agile and the epitome of all that is "Troll". Almost like an assassin/ninja. :P Thanks for your time. |

If it's dreadlocks you're after, I'd recommend looking at the WoW Troll dreadlocks. Note how they sweep back in long cylindrical braids. |

@AR: I looked around, but I couldn't find much; all I got was those toy Trolls hair braided up, and a lot of not-WoW stuff (O_o). Any example pics (if you wouldn't mind)? @deolrin: How did you get teh link?... Meh, whatever. I recently realized that, if a portrait model was made with more attention to detail, we can get away with the dreadlocks' looking papery on the regular unit model. Also, if anyone comes up with an alternative Trollish hair-do, please-do (post it). :P |

MSN, really? Dang, I have that too. Would you mind so much telling me his address; it'd certainly make talking about the model as a WIP much easier. :P ~On-Topic~ (in my own thread, no less :<...) Someone suggested a mullet, but I just laughed. Mohawk, Dreadlocks, dang, I'm just not a hairdresser. Not sure here. |

LoL, a mullet. I had one once.. :P How about hair like a shrunken head? Like, all wiry, thin, etc. |

Sorry for double post, but is a Duohawk feasible? Or even a Trihawk? personally I think that a Duohawk would look awesome. ;) |

I'm thinkin' bald is the way to go at least once... Also, duohawk? Hmm, I'd have to see it. It sounds hilarious, though (like, not serious enough :<...) |

LoL. Sounds and looks are not the same thing, young Kyrbi...(even though you're older than me :P). But, I think It could look good if done correctly. Like, not a phat duohawk, but still a bit thicker than the average troll mo' |

Very true, most Blizzard models have... unsatisfactory details that could be seen as any number of things, but the portrait is more detailed, so people see the model with the intended details You should look at lots of Mayan and Aztec hairstyles, they are Jungle people, so the hair would fit and be practical... |

well, i'd go with bound dreadlocks... like make him having dreadlocks bound together like a horsetail (that what we call it in germany). that way you'd only need to animate one string beneath the hair tie. otherwise if you go with the mohawk maybe you could make them NOT symmetrical on one side... as trolls have some carribean influence you could make him have an afro or cornrows |
