You should've put the little Lightbulb icon next to the topic title; it would stand out more. That being said, I will do what I can to help out in this thread, as I totally agree with what you're trying to do. However, you might have wanted to do a little Searching first... :P Copy/pasta? :D |

@Kyrbi0: Well actually I haven't heard of that thread before hehe. But that thread died, and necromancy is a sin. Quote:
Thanks! I appreciate it alot :) Btw, can a moderator or admin put a lightbulb on the thread's title? It doesn't show on the General Development forums. Thanks :) To start the ball rolling, here is a spell and hero idea. Spell Idea: Bind Binds two enemy units' souls together for up to X seconds. Both targets take Y damage per second. If they move too far away from each other or if one dies, the magic binding them together snaps, stunning them for Z seconds. _____________________ Rascal the Scallywag _____________________ A mischievous imp who loves causing trouble, he got his name from the people whom he has made problems with. Role: A glass-cannon type spell nuker. Theme: An unlucky imp. _______________________ Skillset: _______________________ Table:
I have always wanted to make an imp hero using the Scamp model by Mc! This is what I have had in mind. There's just something about it that doesn't feel right to me though. The passive skill was more of a filler. I need some help getting some spell ideas, I want to change the skillset. |

Your hero reminded me of a hero I developed for a now-dead map, so I dug him up. It has the same trickster theme, but uses the Satyr model. _____________________ Loki the Trickster _______________________ Skillset: _______________________ Table:
Anyway, I quite liked the hero, but the map just didn't work out. |

That is an interesting skill set. Electrify seems out of place to me, maybe instead of a lightning ball it could use a glaive or shuriken, the hero sounds like a ninja to me :P Maybe you could allow Iron Maiden to automatically fire off if the hero receives X amount of damage. Doppleguard sounds like a pretty cool passive to me. Automatically casting mirror image when damaged to try and prevent further damage(confuse the enemy). A problem with this is, if you go with the mirror image method(add mirror image, use it, remove it) it will remove buffs, so if you got struck by Storm Bolt, you don't get stunned. That might probably be a good thing for negative buffs, and a bad thing for positive buffs. Oh and there's another thing with that method, you get a nice complementary effect with Guise :D |

As it was implemented, it took the hero's old position, and made X positions in a circle around it. The real hero was instantly placed in one of the positions, and illusions were placed in the others. The hero was instantly hid/unhid to break off enemies already targetting it, and then its old orders were restored to it as well as the new illusions. So yeah, buffs were still a problem. If one wanted to, they could use a custom buff system and copy the buffs to the illusions as well. |

Ah, I see. Hmm, I am experimenting with both of our hero ideas. If you don't mind :D _______________________ Skillset: _______________________ Table:
Haven't thought of any other skills for it yet, wouldn't want any fillers now would we? :P Seeing as the hero has terribly low hp and super fragile, he should be able to have an escape mechanism. Poof allows him to blink around alot, and deal some damage. With Trickster, he can prove to be hard to kill. After using Poof, he'd be jumbled with illusions. Any thoughts? :D |

2nd ability: (Trickster Hero Skillset) Deadly Prank, Active, Unit-Target (Basic Ability) The hero does a deadly prank on the target unit, destroying their self esteem. It lowers the unit's armour, move/attackspeed and damage by X% for Y amount of time. |

I like the name a lot. This would be great for the skill set, but it would require custom cutesy graphics for it to truly become a "Prank" :P This would be better if it had a short cooldown, and stackable. But I'd reduce the amount of debuffs, maybe just reduced armor and slow. Oh and thank you for contributing to the thread and keeping it alive :) +Cookie points! So now the skill set is almost complete! Just one more spell :D _______________________ Skillset: _______________________ Table:

SO this would be better: Deadly Prank, Active, Unit-Target (Basic Ability) The hero does a deadly prank on the target unit, destroying their self esteem. It lowers the unit's armour and move/attackspeed by X% for Y amount of time. Can stack 3 times, and has a 10 second cooldown. Also: Bunny!, Passive (Basic Ability) Every 10 seconds, three bunnies belonging to (owner of hero) spawn next to the hero. These bunnies have X health and move Y times faster than normal bunny critters. I got the idea for that from the bunny being pulled out of the hat. :P |

Well the hero I am developing is more of a spam-oriented fragile trickster. So Deadly Pranks' cooldown would be super fast, like 2 - 4 seconds and should last around 8 seconds. So he can stack Prank on more than 1 unit. Oh, and lawl at the bunnies. xD It would be cool of they spawned like Lava Spawns do. |
| 04-01-2009, 08:41 AM | #12 |
Ah I see ;) - Lawl. Also, the bunnies have a priortiy level of 5. It's still a useful ability though: *Trickster Hero runs into battle with forces.* *Bunnies spawn.* *Uses Trickster.* *Enemy gets owned by Trickster Hero's forces* |

The bunnies could be used in a completely different manner though. It could be an innate ability, and you could have the hero's skill set revolve around the usage of bunnies. It's not even limited to bunnies at all. You can make them acolytes, and your hero would be like an Occult Leader with acolytes following him. The hero would have abilities that fits his theme well and revolve around the usage of acolytes, such as a sacrificial spell. Possible ideas:
These types of heroes would have interesting spells. Such as: Fireballs Passively summons 1 fire ball which revolves around the hero every X seconds. The fire balls are permanent but only Y amount may be summoned at a time. Fire Blast Deals X damage at the target enemy unit at the cost of one fire ball. Ignite Refuels the Firelord with fire, healing himself for X hitpoints per fire ball summoned. Uses up all fire balls. Blaze Combines all currently summoned fire balls into a big one and hurls it at the target location, dealing X damage to enemy units for each fire ball used up. Pyromancy Increases the maximum amount of fire balls that can be summoned by X. There are more possibilites. Let's get creative people! :) |

Hmm, that Satyr sounds really fun, although I'd be hard-pressed to do it all in GUI. :<... The only issue I have with stuff like this (factory/idea threads for heroes) is that making a hero is (supposed to be) a more in-depth process. I'm glad you put Theme and Role up there, since I've learned those are 2 pre-eminent considerations. But I'm sure there's more and I've only scratched the surface. Basically, the old way of making heroes by saying "here's a hero; spell ideas plox??" is less than satisfactory. Still, it's worth a try; I'll come if I can come up with something to make. :P |
