Well. I've begun working on a 'Maturing' Crypt Lord for the Crypt Fiend. I've seen one other Crypt Fiend reskin that has the same theme but... I decided to give it a go. I also wanted to make my own rendition of DoE's Morgana, a former hero that was removed due to balancing issues if I'm correct. Well, here's my first WIP. I'll keep you all updated if you want :p. The skin actually looks pretty sweetish ingame from the game camera but... For some dumb reason, all my screenshots I take turn black so I'm going to say something is wrong with my computer. Maybe because it's a vista now? Help with this would be greatly appreciated. ![]() |

As for the skin itself, it looks cool, and the colors work well together. I am slightly concerned about the gold, which might well simply be lost or look like an ugly transition in game. However, it is hard to tell without a screenshot or a wrapped picture of some sort. I would really try hard to get something like that; or have someone else take one, if they are willing. |

Thanks for the confirmation Phox :o. The gold is quite visible. Most of it's quality is there and it looks fine from game view... Those screenshots would be great until I can figure why computer is so gayyyy. I need to work on the alpha because it looks like a nasty red blob so I need to add some shading to it. |

You tried wc3viewer? You could also take a screenshot of the scene and then CnP it onto Phtosohop. You are using really bright colors. You should darker some parts (I´m thinking on the red things, which I´m guessing that are muscles :P) to contrast them from each other. Also, the purple is too saturated, it´ll look out of place when it´s side to side with the other ingame models. For the shells, you can take a look at the Crypt Lord for reference. Right now I´m thinking of adding those cracks like the CL skin has, for example. And Morgana... I should update that one someday if it´s getting into AotZ :P |

It looks great so far, but we really do need a screenshot of the skin on the model. Perhaps send it to someone else (the file) and have them post a screenshot? Also, the gold looks quite nice ;) |

Thank you! :D. I will definitely try to get my hand on a screenshot so I can show you guys as soon as I update it a bit more. If anyone wanted to take the skin, you only have the right click the picture and save the image xD. Quote:
I know those are some bright BRIGHT colors but it's a maturing crypt lord so I'll make a lighter version. Once I'm done, I'll revamp it for a darker one. The pink under the lower abdomen/thorax(whatever it is) is a more of a vein ridden skin layer. The upper torso pinkish areas are a fleshy layer of muscles :p. If you could update Morgana, that would be INSANE. ![]() |

But even the ingame nerubians use dark colors, and they are in fact living crypt fiends, so the crypt lord should have a similar color scheme. And which parts are the veins? the brighter parts? Because the way you shaded it makes it look like they are all in the same level, not like one over the other. Also, the lower part of the torax should be darker since it doesn´t receive too much light down there :P Anyway, I´m still a bit iffy about those colours, but I´ll wait till you progress some more with the skin to give better comments. And I´d like to see your rendition of Morgana. I really don´t know what to do with her yet, but i know i don´t like how it turned out now that i see it. |

Maybe... I would actually like to do some other skin for a warmup, I´m feeling kinda rusty on the skinning side. Tell you what, I´ll PM you on saturday about it, I have some unfinished business for the uni I want to get rid of, that´ll also give me some time (i hope) to finish that naga skin I started some time ago, I hate keeping unfinished stuff on my hardrive. Anyway, sorry for the little offtopicness, keep walking people. |

:D Thanks for the screenshots! And am I right, doesn't it look ok from far away? :D. Well. I'll update it a bit more than yesterday and post it. If I finish, I could start Morganna :O. |

The purple stands out too much >< then again it ain't wc3 lighting. -Av3n |

You need to work some more with the shading. Right now it looks like the golden parts are painted onto the shell parts, and from the overall skin, it looks really plain. And the purple is even brighter than before :\ |

What Nirv said, plus the lower abdomen needs shading to give it depth. At the moment there's little to no shading and thus no depth. It is as if there is an equal amount of light coming from all directions which doesn't happen in reality. Even in the cartoony world of wc3, there is a degree of realism in the lighting. Most Wc3 textures are shaded as though the light is coming from above, which lends that sense of depth. Consider the abdomen, if the lip of the carapace at the top protrudes over the surface of the abdomen, there should be shading there. Towards the lower part of the abdomen, there should be stronger shading, as it is furthest from the light and the light is blocked by the upper parts of the model. If the surface is meant to be shiny or slimy, you might want to add reflects there, but its not necessary. The gold seems too yellow, try painting the gold areas in a dark brown or dark red first, then using yellow to highlight it. Finally, see if you can get some of the texture on the Crypt Lord's carapace going on the purple areas of your texture, it'd add more of that whole undead-nerubian look. |
