Detaching a mesh when it's unwrapped

Is there any way to do that? Say I got a leg that I unwrapped in one piece, and would like to get it detached as different parts of the leg and still keeping the unwrap.

I tried doing that (with my unwrap done) and then going to editable mesh > polygon and selected my polys I wanted to detach, but the unwrap just reset <.<

Any ideas?

then you are doing something wrong!
thats the standard and works fine actually...
try to convert to editable poly before you detach maybe?
