Long have I desired to see the ubiquitous Zelda opponent brought to WC3. I started off with the Sea Turtle; its animations are approximately right, but it's massive and its skeleton is a complete mess (considerable confusion as to what bone-chains are right and left limbs, for example, and some bones that I could never quite work out what they were meant to be at all). But that turned out to be a dead end. Then I went to the Lobstrokk. For a start, I've always imagined the octorok as a slightly crabby sort of thing (before you beat me, I grew up with Link's Awakening, and its imagining of an octorok is quite different from what came before and what has come after), so that's a plus; the Lobsrokk also has an appropriately short wheel-base (a factor which ruled out the Nerubian). So a while of clearing out the bullshit (lets face it, I only really needed the legs, and the Lobstrokk has a lot of additional items) and naming the skeleton (Blizzard can't name skeletons for balls) later, and I had a decent basis for my little octorokky. The only downside is that he swings to the left slightly in his attack sequence, a remnant of the Lobstrokk's silly giant right claw; but it's only minor. As I said, he's a Link's Awakening-style octorok, though I've given him an overhanging and solid carapace and slipped the eyes under there to make him look a bit meaner than all the cute artwork of him that image searches turn up (when they're not turning up more octopus-like imaginings that I don't prefer). I wanted to do something a bit closer to that image for the eyes, but I couldn't settle on style or textures, so I hacked off the Lobstrokk's portrait eyes and buggered them about a bit. Satisfactory, if not exceptional. So yeah, here he is, at long last -- the octorok in WC3. Can I say, five years too late? These are not to be modified or redistributed (beyond inclusion in your project). These are a WC3C exclusive resource and I wish them to remain that way. If your friends want these models, direct them here. |

I really hate how the eyes are stretched and blurred. At least make the black not blur so hardcore, I know you can wrap better than that. It also looks a bit too shell-like for an octorok, I always felt they were more like, you know, octopi. That last one is just an opinion, interpretation is fair game in artistry. At least fix the eye wrap and I will approve this. |

Awesome stuff! +Rep for pure Legend of Zelda win. ;) I hope you eventually make Ganon? (NOT a request :P) |

This definitely is the old-style octorok, compared to the more modern ones which took on a much more aquatic octopi look. |

It reminds me of the giant, steel beetle from Pikmin lol, this is awesome just like your previous work on Zelda models! |

Still, it doesn't seem to bear the sweet smell of quality. As slightly opposed by Rising. Havn't checked it out ingame, though. When I first saw the preview I was like "Oh, another "look at my first model!" submission" but then I saw Rao's name under it and I was like "Aww " |

Grab an eye texture off of another in-game texture then. Take some advice, forcing yourself to use a shitty texture just for 100% consistency in the texture (For an eye? Come on!) isn't worth it. Grab the eyes off the turtle or something. |

For an eye, yes I do believe it is worth it -- this is a very small piece of the model and it feels, to me, very cheap to introducing another 256x256 texture (and another geoset) so I can use only 16x16 of it. I am currently adding a blink similar to the Tektite to add more life to the eye area. |

Lol i like it. |

Peon/Peasant eyes, or even the b.net 'working' eye (with animated texture blink) could look good :) |
