Both this and the next week I have a hell of a lot of exams. So before that, I took some free time to relax, and in result started some skin I had laying around my wips folder. This time it´s an update of an old skin made for some hive contest (which I won lol). I actually had the idea way before that contest started, the contest was just the excuse to start something :P. Back then I had to rush it for some reason, that and I sucked a bit more too, so it turned into a purple blob. Anyway, I still have no idea of what I´m going to do with that fucking belt, ideas are appreciated. This won´t get an update soon, but I´m sure everyone is used to wait for me to finish anything :P. Basically, I´m making the thread to get some ideas because I´m kinda lost in this one. Oh, if anyone cares, here´s the old version: link |

Oh Damn this is awesome! And the old version is great too :O! And the unwrap is just beautiful! *salute* Pumpkin Ribcage! Perhaps make candycorn belt?! Or pumpkin... Gardening Belt! With little pockets and bags textured on :o. |

What the hell kind of school/university are you at? You seem to have exams every single day of the year! :P |

This version puts the previous one to shame. So far, so excellent. As for the other part of the skins... maybe some pumpkin flowers (not sure, but I think they're yellow), vines (like you haven't thought of that). Also, maybe you can but a glowing candle somewhere on his belt. |

AWWW DAMN, redoing this skin? I loved the original I'd say either vines or...something else :P |

The first version you linked to is pretty bad, not going to lie, regardless of what everyone else in the thread has said. (Sorry guys, you're just wrong) I'm glad you decided to revisit it, though, your new talent is sure to add a nice touch to the texture. I feel that he's going to need a lot more orange and green than he had before, otherwise you'll fall into the purple blob pit again. Maybe if the belt were a string of pumpkins or something it could work. Or maybe just the upper jaw of a jack o' lantern. You've got a lot of purple on the back and a lot of purple in the cloak, so a bit of that might need to change. I feel as though you really need to avoid the 'random doodling' you tend to do on textures in order to add detail that winds up overdoing it. There needs to be a bit more coherence to the way you develop things, with a lot more thought put into the design and thematics. I feel like his fists should be pumpkin-orange too to keep the skin tied together. Right now the orange bleeds out with all of the purple. Make the wrists as you have them with the vine tangling down and then have it lead to a pumpkin fist, it'll look cool. His upper arms should be the same stem-like black you've got for his torso cord and horns, it'll probably fit the theme better. I feel like the cape should have a tangling green vine going down it leading to and then wrapping around those diamond-shaped things, which should be left team colored. The borders of the cloak things should be some contrasting color in order to set off and really bring together the texture as a whole. If I think of anything else, I'll definitely let you know. Good luck. :p |

Thanks Dusk, that post is what I needed. And of course that old skin sucks, I wouldn´t be updating it otherwise. I still don´t know how the heck I won that contest, hence the lol in there :P The idea was cute though. Quote:

Besides the awesome skin(again), I've been wondering how you guys seem to make your textures so crisp and detailed? My textures are always nasty even though I work on larger than 256and then I simply minimize. Is there some technique :O?. Especially how it's all glossy and nothing bleeds into anything else! D: |

Can´t really say, it´s mostly practise. I did have my crappy times too. |

Shameless double post. I thought that, since I had this thread, I could use it to get some ideas for another problematic skin. This time is the Mad Cow I made for a contest held here (good times), which reminds me, I never got the award for this one lol. Luckily, this skin didn´t turned out that bad so i did not had to change the whole thing, I just made some contrast adjustments and touchups. Anyway, the gray thing on the back shows that I have absolutely no idea of what to do there. It used to be a milk dispensor, but it looker ugly ingame, and I couldn´t find a good excuse to stick some TC in there. Much love to anyone that figures this one out. I really want to get this shit released as soon as I can, that´s why I´m asking for more help than I usually do :P Again, old thing: link And new slightly fixed version. I´m open for any new suggestions to improve it. BTW: Crappy quality of the screenshot is because I used Paint, I don´t have PS right now... |

MooooOOooooooo... Utters lol. I like how the skulls that wrap the horns of the chief are now bells... And with this skin, someone can finally make a hidden cow level :o. Totems can be little milk containers? CHEESE containers? Rocket boosters lol? Looks nice anyways, your too amazing. D: [edit; you already made milk containers on the old one xD] |
