Where's the Money!?

Well, I'm trying to improve the quality of my skins. I have a skin for Arthas whereas I'm turning him into a highwayman, hence the title. I was also converting the Mountain Giant into the D3 unburied but I've been caring less about since someone released an unburied skin for the wildkin this week on the hive.

I hope I can finish these > >.

The shading is a bit too sharp to be natural on the face of the highwayman. What you need to look at is, for example, AR's textures and notice how the shading is more gradual and developed. Work with thicker brushes and gradually develop to darker or lighter shades (depending on the area), then overlap them and blend the colors. There's a wonderful video tutorial by TDR on approaching this kind of thing here, so check it out and hopefully it'll help.

Look like you´re using black to shade, am I wrong? That gives a dirty look that turns really ugly. I´d use either red or a dark blue shades and yellows for lightings.

Take a look at that tut Dusk posted if you didn´t already, it´s REALLY helpful.

I've already seen an used that tut before ; - ;.

Thanks anyways dusk and you too Nirvana D:.

I'll try and redraw the face of mr. Highwayman with some new shades.

And... I blend by using a 20% opacity brush and most of the time it's of a 17 pixel radius : <. Something I'm doing wrong here? I'll try to use some more colors in between instead of making large differences in the darkness and light of the previous and new color so the shading looks more natural.

:D

Yeah, you should change to darker/lighter colors gradually to give a more natural look.

I think the issue with the Arthas texture is that you're not getting enough saturation into those skintones. The brightest should be light pink and the darkest should be almost brown. Also take a look at the lighting on the face, try make it as though it's coming from above (eg make the top lip darker, as it'd be in shadow). Just one more thing, the lines are a bit thick, particularly around the hair maybe you could try using smaller brushes.

Oh and by the by, I've added the Mountain Giant (along with all the other NE units) to the wrap comp thread, if you're interested :)

Shades are still too sharp, and it doesn´t look like you´re considering the shape of the face, since both lighting and shading don´t make much sense.
Also, do you have some way to check how the model looks besides WE? Because seeing all these flats drives me crazy. I have to see how it looks in the actual model to give more decent comments.

Hey, I have a small Tauren below my rep. Thanks Dusk <3!

Yeah, definitely. Right now his face looks flat, not 3-dimensional. Consider how the texture as you have it will wrap, the transitions in shading will be way too sharp. You need to blend more.

I use Magos' to view, yes.

Yup, Magos would be my second choice.

Wc3Viewer is pretty much useless if you have Magos.

^Except it's 100x easier to switch textures around with Wc3Viewer ("Remap Textures", nigh-on instantaneous :P). Other than that, Magos generally > Wc3Viewer.

Exactly, for texturing wc3viewer is much faster as IMO much better for that simple reason. I use Magos just for final shots
