It's called a swastic, in ancient places it represented the sun, though the reason he added it there could be anything.

About your question, many people has asked me the same thing, some even blamed me for that but people has misunderstood, that symbol is from the BUDDHA, and the sword is an ancient one i took from my favorite novel, maybe you don't know or even don't want to know about it !
