Draenei: Altar Of Grief

As planned a long time ago, I started to work yesterday on an altar for the Lost Ones. (name (that in the title) blatantly stolen from cosmicat)

Unfortunately, I'm having a massive UVmap problem, with its base:

I tried with the current texture, stone ones, some kind of wood... nothing, all becomes too much stretched.

Help, anyone?

UPDATE: Meh, this way?

(I'm gonna search for a better stone texture for the stairs too, something more defined)

For the stone steps leading up to the Altar, you could try to use
Doodads\Barrens\Props\HellScreamThrone\HellScreamThrone.blp

It has large circular steps in the model, much like your model does, and the texture does a good job of wrapping them to look good.

The texture of the ground texture beneath the altar bothers me. It seems way too busy and rock-ish. I'll try and find a suggestion for that.

Funny. Guess what model I used for the steps? xD

Why am I not using that? I'll give it a check.

EDIT: Stairs texture permanently replaced with that of Hellscream throne.

There are only two things that are bugging me now about the wrap of the model (the model itself looks good imo).

What is the texture used on the ground beneath it? The rockish one.

The texture on the Draenei looks very light. Is the a slightly darker stone texture?

1. Tree Of The World (check the screen again, I just replaced it)

2. I tried with Onyx, but I don't think it fits, I'll search for something else...

I like it :]

How does the Outland Dirt look on other Tilesets, though? I can't imagine it looking bad, but it may be wierd.

Could you use pieces of the Mountain King Avatar texture to texture your draenei? It may look wierd, but I'm not sure...

Also, just noticed that in the bottom right corner of your latest picture, there is a piece of wood that appears to be tinted purple. Is that just the picture or what?

Meh, I don't like using the Outland Dirt this way, but I can't find better solutions

For the statue I'll probably use one of those, "Ethereal Onyx" or Simple Onyx:

The piece of wood is taken by the Draenei hut and it's using the normal UVmap, so yes, it looks like this

Really nice! I suggest using some Campaignscreen texture for the statue, so it wont look so "low-res".

Thanks! I'll start animating it soon (something simple but custom)

I think this model looks really good. The only thing is that the figure's texture isn't detailed (as already said), so it may be hard to tell what it is in-game.

Glad you made a thread. :P

Well, I think it has gotten a lot better from the original WIP. I still think you ought to have just an entire "mushroom cap" for the base, with all the stuff (stairs, braziers, bones, flags, statute, pedestal) arranged on top; Draenei don't really go so well with Wood, IMHO.

Still, it's looking good. :P (oh yeah, you should think about removing the weapon, so the statue appears more generic and less specialized).

No, you've gone too far in the other direction. Now it looks cluttered and ugly.

Don't worry, I tested it ingame and it just looks fine.

I replaced wood with the mushroom cap, when I can I'll post the screenshot

Suggestions for the texture?
