Problems with Newgen, Caster System, and the new Patch.

With the current edition of Newgen, Caster System, and the new patch, it seems I am unable to load my map, and when starting from scratch again, And importing the caster system, I have been unable to get any results.

I am using War3 1.21 for development as suggested on the page (Re-downloaded Newgen Yesterday), and I am unable to run the map ingame in either version (Current 1.23 or 1.21), and when I attempted to open my map, It has an error saying a function does not exist (I dont remember protecting it), so I did another one from scratch, imported the new caster system, and it comes up with countless compile errors. Now I dont know if its because I need to use newgen to run on the current world editor (Which if I recall correctly is impossible, as such one reason why my map development halted for so long *cough about a month or two* to wait to see if anything to adjust tot he new patch came out as I had to re-install war3 because of it, and then I could not load newgen)

So I guess my question is is this- Do I need to use newgen with the current 1.23 patch along with current Caster System 6.0, and do I need them in seperate folders, one for development and one for bnet play?

I don't know if the old Caster System used the return bug anywhere.
But if that's the case you won't be able to run maps that are using it after the latest patch.

Okay, so that answers why I cannot open my last map, but as for the current one and not being able to run with the caster system designed for patch 1.23 is an answer I would like. Do I need to download patch 1.23 for my development warcraft 3 (Upgrade it from 1.21 to 1.23). I have 2 folders for war3, one for play, and one for development as stated earlier.

A lot of people have the same problem, newgen does not correctly load the newest common.j since most people are using two setups of 1.21 to make it work.

Do you have two different versions of wc3?

Yes I do, as stated before. I have one for play with the current patch, and another folder with patch 1.21 that I am using for development.

that's the problem.

Well, what happens here is that your newgen is taking your common.j/blizzard.j files from 1.21's.

What you should do is create a scripts subfolder in your 1.21's folder.
then copy to it common.j and blizzard.j
from 1.23b's war3patch.mpq

scripts\common.j
scripts\blizzard.j

Hmm I will try that, but I have tried testing the map on both versions (1.23 and 1.21) to no avail. It never gets to the loading screen. It might fix the thing with the triggers though.

I am not too sure what you mean though. Do I overwrite those files of the same name in the 1.21 folder or just make a new folder in my 1.21 and copy patch 1.23's scripts\common.j, and scripts\blizzard.j into the as you stated?

Do you have 1.23B ? (The westfall patch)

You are using the caster system 16.0 with patch 1.21?

The 16.0 is only for the 1.23b patch

As far as I know, Newgen does not work with patch 1.23, which ironically means that the caster system does not work either. (I had downloaded patch 1.23 earlier and it said I had to de-install it because I had a third party thing or something like that which was newgen, and then newgen never worked properly after that).

So does this mean that newgen works properly with the westfall patch? Im not upgrading patches as I dont know if its possible to downgrade and de-installing then re-installing is a pain.

Quick Edit: I also recall somewhere that apparantly pre 6.0 Caster Systems do not work with the new patch, which will be somewhat annoying if it is true, as this might eliminate the Spell Factory spells taht I like to use.

Well I made a backup 1.21 folder, then took the non backup and downloaded the westfall patch through warcraft 3 (It says its version 1.24 now). Its still coming up with all those errors and its still saying theres no hashtable variable. I still cant play the map, but I can still play the older map that I can no longer open (I could still play this one on ver 1.23 as well).

It seems that patch 1.23+ has caused many problems in the mapmaking community.

It doesn't have to. You may use 1.21's World editor for newgen pack, do the scripts folder trick I described and things should work (maybe not with testmap though).

I cant find anything with the filename common.j or blizzard.j

Could you go into more detail and do a step by step thing? I cant really decipher what you mean from what you are saying.

hmnn
ok.

* Update to patch 1.24 (or 1.23b)
* With a mpq editor, open war3patch.mpq from the 1.24 install.
* When it asks you for a listfile, tell it to use war3x.mpq's listfile.
* extract common.j and blizzard, from a scripts folder inside war3patch.mpq.

* Now go to 1.21's folder and create a scripts subfolder in it.
* copy your recently extracted common.j and blizzard.j there.
* close newgen WE.
* Try again
