Hello guys! Very recently I came up with an idea for a new genre of gameplay for a new map. I guess you, who are reading this, had already played maps where you customize your hero almost to the maximum: Attributes, abilities and such. Well my idea was like customizing this all, but most importantly creating your own abilities. Choosing if it's a missile, aoe, missile with aoe, passive, ultimate, multileveled, damage, radius, distance, element (fire, water, ice, earth, dark, light) whatever comes to the mind, even the name (of course it wouldn't appear the name in the UI, but when the ability would be casted in a floating text). Now to the gameplay: This would probably turn out to be more like a spellcaster battle arena, where players would have to create their abilities carefully, to fit with all the other abilities consequently making powerful and devastating combinations. You're may be thinking that the ability creation system may turn out boring and not intuitive, but of course that I would make the ability customization as practical as possible. This is a brief description of what I have in mind, and more might come up eventually as time goes on, but before I even start such a project, I'd like to know your opinions and suggestions, either positive or negative, I'll accept them, as long as they are constructive. If they're positive enough I'll start working on this, if not, I'll think in something else to work on. Looking forward for your answers ![]() |

When you get a level of dynamic spell-building such that everything is not 'unit-target-nuke-FTW' with nothing that actually looks cool or interesting, you let me know. I don't think it's impossible, it's just that there would be no reason to make anything cool; it would be entirely utility-based. |

The idea could be crafted into something nice, but I'd want to see interactions between the effects of spells. To take an elemental example (oooh, the wit!), a unit that has just been frozen becomes more susceptible to flame. I'd also want to see protective/counter spells and whatnot integrated. The whole idea is (very) loosely formed on Baldur's Gate (D&D) rules/play. |

I'd say if you don't know vJASS don't even bother. If you're limited to ladder spells or GUI creations, the wall of variety is going to be hit rather quickly. |

Are you planning on making something like this by yourself? It sounds like a good idea, but of course you have to have a lot of time and willpower to make something innovative. So to answer your question, yes, it is a good idea. Now the question is, can someone pull it off? Quote:

You could do it with JASS. But you'd probably go mad before you finished. |

thanks for all your opinions. I'll think about this, but my decision will be obvious I think. |
