Story

The campaign is a fictional story set during the war between England and France in the late 18th century. The resources of both nations are nearly exhausted. Military morale is getting lower. Despited numerous uprisings, George III of England refuses to withdraw his soldiers from the French front. Instead, he orders even more soldiers into the fray, including the greenhorn General Deklam..

Gameplay

The campaign has a unique gameplay. In each battle you control your army through the direction of your General. Instead of directly controlling individual soldiers, you use the General to give out simple orders to companies of soldiers. This allows you to easily control large numbers of troops..

I lended a hand with some elements of this map, and have plans to expand upon it into a multi-player version.

Dubbed, I'll be giving you a critique on this soon.

Looks promising, I'll be giving this a try soon and will probably hand in a review sometime soon'ish too.

It was pretty fun, but I'm stuck on the second mission. My first group of grenadiers throw grenades / attack, and after they die, the french units retreat to their starting position :(

Anyway, downloaded and I'll give a review soon. You have to upload the file to the site though.

The cinematics are in need of some serious grammatical help. If you want, I can go through the dialogue and correct it.

Gameplay wise, everything except for the second (grenadier ambush) mission was crazy fun. You need to add a few 'polish' things, like explaining the fact that most cannons have limited ammunition, ect.

Nonetheless, it was fun. Poor man died because he didn't have a 'drop gun' animation, mind. ^^

Interesting map, at the very least. It's got it flaws, however, and is in need of polishing.
  • I think you should add a tutorial map that explains the basics of the gameplay and also covers some strategies etc. since I can guess that some people could find this rather difficult.
  • There shouldn't be a "Victory" box popping up after the cinematic, just use the Set Next Level action instead.
  • The grammar of the cinematic was rather bad, to be honest, and these grammatical errors should be located and fixed.
  • I was a bit disturbed that the same loading screen was used for every mission and even the campaign screen, it became repetitive, so to say.
I'll write a longer review at a later time, but above are some things for you to look into meanwhile.

Good campaign. A bit sloppy but overall pretty enjoyable. Grammer definitely needs to be fixed though.

Thanks Linaze, I'll fix these for the next version.
But it don't have the same loadings screens anymore. That was in the demo version.

Very nice, has potential. I was really waiting for someone to spring out with a map like that.

Now onto crituque....

Cuirassiers - give them some collision size, when they fight melee, they all, like, "meld" into one unit. I had the whole regiment killed with one mortar shot in the Amiens mission.

Cannon/Mortar fire. First off, make it a bit more random, it shouldn't be a normal, AoE attack. Should be something like: shoots at a random point in XXX AoE around the target unit. You could also add some condition in the trigger regarding the range, the closer the cannon to the target is, the smaller the AoE.
Another thing I'd add for the cannons, to give them some more strategic use and promote timing, is some debuff, like, under fire or something like that. Units near the explosions would have reduced damaged and/or armour for a moment.

Ambush mission. It's so boring. Like, SNORE. It's also too hard, imo.

Would be nice if the game didn't totally depend on the auto-acquire attack. One of the reasons was stated already, cuirassiers are a walking (or rather galloping) proof of how bad it is. I think you could convince Hawk or some other guy here to help you implement some projectile system. Otherwise, try to make some workaround.

EDIT: Another thing, in the kill Clemance mission the dust makes the game lag as hell. Remove, please.

Overally, I like it a lot, keep up the good job!

Order them to take cover, so the fusiliers will not hit them.
Then, when the fusiliers reloading, order them again to attack...

That doesn't work. What I do is throw grenades when they're in the middle (obviously), and then attack. If I need to take cover, I do, but all that happens is the blue bubble appears above them and they don't shadowmeld, meaning the French attack my units. If I attack and let's say my units die, the French will generally turn back and just sit at their regular position.

Unless the download was changed recently?

When u see the blue bubbles that means they are behind cover. The french will still try to shoot them, but most likely they will miss it... And then, while they reloading u can attack safely.

The grammar really needs work--I suggest you get a native English speaker to run through it and fix it up. There were also some annoying visual problems, such as the two books being merged in the first scene. However, the cinematics did their job of introducing the situation for the character.

As for the gameplay and presentation,
  • It would be nice if abilities like "Miss: Chance to miss a shot" were hidden.
  • The grenadier battle was very broken--once I shot them with my general, they stopped advancing and thus never reached my grenadiers. However, via careful use of shadowmeld I was able to eliminate their entire army using only my general.
  • The battle in the french camp seemed impossible, even on easy mode--I tried a number of different strategies and was slaughtered every time. Having attack-move would certainly help, but I think the numbers are just not high enough for victory to be possible.
  • In general, the ideas seem good, but the game is not very polished nor necessarily well balanced--the difficulty levels don't seem to mean much, and the difficulty of the missions is rather random.
