Need help with Experience gaining rate.

Hi, I have a problem that certainly a lot of game developers have, the experience rate.

The map I'm currently working on is ment to be an Open rpg, and all the heroes can reach max level 100. They don't gain any strength, intelligence or aility by leveling, but gain lumber wich is used to purchase spells, weapons and armors.

Now, the game is set so that you can only get to level 6 by killing creeps, so I had to change the Creep Reduction Table. I added a couple of integers.

Well, now it doesn't matter what I kill. Killing level 1 bandits gives me 50 exp, while killing a level 2 troll gives me 100 exp. What is truly annoying is that when I kill a level 8 Doom Guard gies me 100 exp as well. I don't want it to be to hard to gain levels, as the players depend on the lunmber to get better.

I also don't wan't to change the creatures to much. I have seen maps where to hero has over 1000 agility and attacks like insane. I have set the Heroes stats to level 5, and want evything balanced. Killing a level 10 red dragon will take time and a lot of players, summons and mercenaries co-operating to kill.

Can someone please give me some help or hint about how i should set my heroes experience gain rate? It's easy leveling untilll I get to level 10, then it's very slow.

Thank you in advance.

Well, you could make your own system using this as a base: Darkwulfv's EXP System

I believe there's also a way to set the creep level fields to do what you want, but I don't know what exactly that is. Perhaps try a forum search and see what you can come up with.

Not quite what I was looking for, but thanks a lot for the help anyway.

In the end I think I'll just disable experience gaining of my Heroes, as it doesn't really matter what level they are. The lumber will be gained by killing high level monsters.

Thanks again.

Well, I was saying you could modify that system. Create your own formula for XP gain based on the level of the monster and then use that system to apply it.
