So anyhow, I finally got my hands onto a copy of 3ds Max. Turns out it's on all my school's computers hidden in some stupid Novell folder. I decided to learn to model 'cause my new computer doesn't seem to like my Photoshop so I can pretty much do nothing else. And HT doesn't make models fast enough for me to skin.

Anyway ... A ZERGLING! Yay!

Apparently there are 278 faces here, but I dunno if that's counting the Symmetry modifying thing.

Anyhow, I need the awesome people on this forum to tell me what to do next. Cause I'm pretty retarded with this :(

Note: Despite what it looks like, it's not even my first model D: The box man monster was even worse

Add a texture and unwrap it. Also where hes wings and you are also missing some more stuff.?

If it is your first try at modeling i gotta say its really good. Keep up the good work.

They diteched wings on later iterations. Too bad because it looked pretty cool.

oh, how bad. The wings make him look more disgusting and evil. Think you should still add them.

They don't even look remotely like SC1 zerglings anymore.

You couldn't actually tell what they were supposed to look like in SC1 really..

Sure you could! They definitely weren't as fat as Blizzard made 'em for SC2!

Well, obviously they've put on a few pounds since their last acting job :P

Mesh looks ok besides the head. I can see lots of Ngons there (polygons with more than four sides - the cardinal sin of lowpoly modelling :O)

For what exactly did you model it? I mean, did you model it just for fun or did you model it with warcraft 3 in mind?

Just wondering. :)

@Alevice: Actually, they just changed it so that the wings are added after an upgrade. ;)

In SC1's concept art by samwise, they were fat as fuck and had a tongue. Interestingly, I don't think any representation of them was consistent with each other. Some of them looked like legged hydralisks, other like grasshopping dinosaurs, other like felhounds... fucking zerglings.

The wings are still in SC2. They appear after the Zergling Speed Upgrade has been purchased.

omagawd, even Magos posted in this thread! (For slightly offtopic purposes, but that's still going onto my ego list.)

Anyway ...

1) How do you unwrap in 3ds 2009? It seems the controls are a bit different from Whitehorn's UV mapping tutorial.

2) Rigging. Ima currently doing it like Blinkboy's tut, but is kinda sloooow. Any less number involving ways of rigging? Or should I stop being a lazy ass?

3) Started a new quickie model just to make sure I'm actually capable of rigging + animating. Don't wanna end up with a bunch of crappy, STATIC models. Yeah, I'm an unashamed TDR + HT + Dio clone. Meh

4) Off topic: I was lurking on Conceptart.org, and everyone keeps talking about this silhouette technique thing. Anyone know what it is? :/
