How would someone make a regular unit into a hero?

I am wondering on how to turn the special night elf archer and some others into heros. thx for the answer!

make a custom unit of a hero and then just edit it so that it has the same values for the model the icon the attack etc..

If you want to make that unit go from a normal unit to a hero then you would have to deal with triggers. It just depends on what you are trying to do.

Actually, if you wanted to make a normal unit become a hero you would use triggers to say that you want to replace that unit with the hero.
