I can't sift through the information very easily, but I'd like to return to map making, I left at around February this year. My main concerns:
I may have a few more questions. Thanks! |

For #2: 1.24(b) is just accepted afaik. I'm not sure what you mean by the syntax checker, such as the one in JNGP still works. You COULD unpatch by removing patch files(?) or re-installing WCIII, but many systems already updated their code and works fine now. |

Well, looks like I'm severely screwed because I can't dual boot for a while... I'm gonna look for 1.23 where it's "stable". EDIT! I'm sorry if this is against the rules because I'm not sure if it's considered warez/piracy handling or not, but does anyone know where I can find 1.23b? |

Bump? How do I un-retard my WC3 syntax checker? I haven't even got any triggers added and it's telling me the base parts of the map are "incorrectly" done. EDIT! Uh... I might be dual booting in the near future, should I go for Windows XP or Windows 7 - I'll be using it for more than modding, obviously, but just wondering which one would benefit modding more. |

WinXP will have the fewest (no?) compatibility issues. Windows 7 may/will need a bit of fiddling to get WC3 and WE to work flawlessly, as well as tools like Grimoire. (NewGen) Really, go by cost. Whichever costs less is probably the better option for you :P (If they both cost the same... meh.) As for 1.23b: Blizzard has it on their site, as well as a bunch of older patches as well. (Windows only though, I think... I'm not sure. Go check.) Also, asking for patches is not at all warez/piracy... asking for a full download of the game would be piracy, though. |

Ah, thanks for the information. I'll check prices and it'll probably be easier to get Windows 7, but cheaper to get XP, but *theoretically* in the long run 7 may be cheaper. I checked for the patches, they only have EXE's as far as I could find. |

7 won't be cheaper for years... Of course, a full copy of XP Pro is still ~100$ USD. (Do NOT get XP Home if you're going to get XP... get Pro or Media Center Edition (Which is basically XP Pro)) Quote:

You are a freaking legend. Thank you so much, and thanks for the heads-up on prices of XP! EDIT! On a scale of 1 to awesome, you're over 9000. I can now use my trigger editor without it fucking up on me! EDIT! Now that I have a copy of a patch to fall back on, I can just interchange my patches if I want to play or edit! Woot! |
