Complete overhaul?

Recently I've come across an idea, that if I moved, say... Bone_Hand_R to the top of the list, so that it becomes the new Bone_Root, I would be able to save this model, go to the Vertex Modifier and use the function "Merge Geoset" so that the new mesh would follow this bone, and not create a new geoset, saving some space.

However... I've had limited success on this matter, mostly with special models, such as the villager model, which has 90% of the model in one single geoset.

I'm wondering, though, is there a way to do this with other models? I've tried it with the Arthas model, to attach a trinket to his right hand, but it was still placed onto Bone_Chest. Anyone have a way to fix this?

Well, you can always just use the "Assign Vertex Group" and "Add Matrix" tools in Vertex Modify. They assign meshes to "Vertex Groups", which are groups of vertexes who follow a number of bones.

I've never seen these functions before, care to explain further?

I'll try to explain if you don't understand.

Well that was significantly easier than I expected.

After trying and retrying to accomplish something, with various little ideas as to how, I've come upon another issue. I've added another bone to a model, and want a part of an existing geoset to follow this bone, but the Vertex Modifier only lets me choose Vertex Groups(Bones, as far as I care) that already exist in that specific geoset.

For example, I want a sword or something that uses the texture from the feet of the model, but not add another geoset, so I merge the sword into that specific geoset, and try to get the sword to follow the Vertex Group for the right hand. However, that Group isn't available. So... Ideas?

Oh, and yeah, I'm not too clear on this sites double-posting rules yet.

create the vertex group in that geoset.
Matrix groups are the connection between bones and vertices. Every bone in a model has a specific number in this model which you can see under "view matrices"

Let's put it this way, the model I'm working with has 30 Matrix Groups. If I add a new bone, that's 31, but it isn't used in any geoset, so it's unavailable, causing the selected bit of the model to stay motionless.

ok, try the following:
1. create your bone with war3modeleditor
2. use geoset merger and merge the sword to the new created bone. This way you will find out which number it has for the matrix group
3. completely remove the new geoset of the sword and merge it into your existing geoset.
4. create a new matrix group with the number you got from part 2

Whenever I merge any kind of geoset, it always gets stuck on either the Chest or Root bones.
