Yesterday night I got a strange idea: What if we code our own WE? pro: - no need for we-hacks and other virus-like tactics - free choise of compilers - our own GUI-scripting language/additions to Blizz's one - more independence from Blizz - removal of unused units/... (e.g. by Orcs vs. Humans no one needs ne or ud) - map optomisation after every save - full readability for all OE-fields with (v)JASS/newGUI - new features (mergers/colorizers/...) - will be written in java (--> cross-platform usability) - easier to add new features - <more pros will be added later> con: - lot of work - needs a lot of good coders - will have many bugs (at the beginning) - <more cons will be added later> I'm happy about any criticism/thaughts EDIT0: IF THERE IS ANY CODER (Java/C++/...) AROUND WHO WANTS TO HELP ME, JUST PM ME!! nearly EVERYONE IS NEEDED (pros prefferd) EDIT1: added to pros: - will be written in java (--> cross-platform usability) - easier to add new features |

What are you waiting for? Do it! |

Yeah, I don't think anyone has ever had this crazy idea before! |

AND OF COURSE PEOPLE HELPING ME CODING Quote:
This is no crazy idea, man; that's visionary!! |

Well, it's super as far as ideas go. Don't let me be a naysayer. However, if you want it to happen you're probably going to have to be able to do most of it yourself; people in general just have other stuff they're already working on. |

Yea...But asking for someone with free capacity isn't wrong and I'ven't thaught that there are millions of people begging for a place in the team (current members: me) |

In bold, pros that do not really require we to code a whole new WE. in italics, things we do not need anyway. In red, something that is unlikely to happen even if you had this thing. Quote:

BOLD) Bad examples ITALIC1) Oh for all the GUI-noobs floating around that would be nice ITALIC2) mergers/colorizers are lame examples RED) possible with GMSI, but incomfortable and slow; with a new we, it would be possible to directly load all objects data into an hashtable/array/... so you can access them with (v)Jass |

I actually entirely agree with Vex on all counts. I wouldn't use it if it were created. |

I would use it if it was created and was in Java or python or something else that was cross platform. But this is the third such project I've seen, they tend not to get beyond concept point... |

of course it would be in java...that's the main point (ohhh...f***...forgot to mention) |

This sounds awesome. I would use this. |

Yeah do it! :D |

I doubt it is worth the work. I dunno how much can be done by hacking WE even further but I rather prefer that instead of doing tons of unnecessary work just to get a new editor. Also most modders will switch to SC2 anyway, I think it would be a waste of time doing this now. |
