(2) Naval Commander

Tactics on the high seas! Naval Commander is a two-player naval RTS where players try to destroy the enemy shipyard. Take over various islands for money by moving ships nearby and escort your Freighters to rack up loads of gold. Then spend your gold on the toughened Cruisers, the agile Assassins, or the massive Destroyers to pulverize your opponent.

Seriously though, if you like strategy games, give this one a try. I haven't found anything like it yet really, beside the game that inspired it (Dreamspike's Space War Commander). Unlike other strategy games, this will really make you think.

Features
-Real tactical gameplay. Ships move very slowly to allow you to think, but there's enough action that it never gets boring.
-Seven unique ships. Each is designed to fill a particular role, permitting players to adapt based on their preferences.
-Games are short. Most games last between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the skill of your opponent.
-Extremely simple rules, but complex gameplay. Just trust me on this.

I highly recommend that you play that map at least twice with the same opponent (or someone who has already played before). The first time is always a bit rough, but once you get it, I assure you it's a lot of fun.

I haven't actually played the map against someone, but I did take a look at it. I have 3 things to talk about.

1) Movement Speed

Truthfully, this is a minor issue dealing with style. Yes, the map is really small, so ship movement speeds need to be on very low side also to accommodate. However, for me personally, a slow moving unit is very, very annoying. Few things irk me more than when a unit is slow moving and it feels like its slow moving.

With your map, there's two possible things you could change this a little visually while keeping the gameplay the same. One, would be to decrease the size of the ships, making them small, giving the illusion that they're moving faster.

The other option is just to increase the map size and increase the ship speeds. Again its just a minor style issue that really doesn't change much.

2) 2 Players

The fact that the map is 2 players means it very much limits how useful it is in a Battle.Net setting. Sure playing against a random guy is great and everything, but I prefer games when I have 1 or 2 people on my team. Making this a 2v2 or 3v3 would help the game out, in my opinion. I think players would like the option of making this a 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3 instead of always being forced to do a 1v1.

3) The Terrain

When it comes to mapping, I'm more of a terrainer than anything, so when the terrain is bland and boring, it affects more than some random guy you'll meet over in Battle.Net. You're terrain is very much to the point, but adding some doodads here and there to break up the monotony of WC3's water texture would be nice.

Thanks for checking things out. To address your comments:

You are correct to notice that ships do move slowly. However the stylistic problem you have is a much smaller problem then you think. You'll just have to take my word until you play it, but when you've got several ships to manage, the slow speed is extremely important in allowing players to think, and truthfully the gameplay doesn't feel slow because of how much you have to micro. Unlike other games, flanking is a huge part of NC's tactics, so really, the slow speed is not much of an issue. I will look into your suggestions though; it's easy enough to give them both a shot, but I assure you you will be too busy to notice how slow things are when combating a skilled opponent.

The 1v1 set up is just because I sort of wanted the game to be like chess, where you have one opponent and you pit your mind against him. Also, it's hard to find people for bigger maps a lot of times, so 1v1 is perfect for the small group of people I play with. Admittedly though, I have been looking into expanding the amount of players in order to increase the popularity of the map, but in all likelihood, individual battles will remain 1v1. We'll see though, I've been focused on fixing up other things lately.

And I can't argue with you on the terrain. I truly just forgot about it.

I think its better to leave it up to the host if he wants this to be a 1v1 match or more. This makes the map more versatile. Not for popularity reasons, but just for playing in general. I'd like to play this with my friends, and I have more than just one friend. You could easily make a game mode selection, where you have "Normal", which is 1v1, and so on.

You should attach the minimap preview as the first image to your thread, that way it will appear as the thread's image.

Map doesn't appear on our list when we download it. :( Both me and someone else had that problem.
