[WIP] Troll Fire Dancer

01-28-2010, 08:33 PM#1
Mc !
Well, now that I managed to upload good ol' Hero Contest stuff, I decided it was time to work on a model I've been planning to do for years (woo!) Man, I have to admit is really fun to model a troll face...

The mesh is complete, no custom textures were used, I only have to add anims now. It's going to have some mad ribbon emitters to get the whole "fire-dancing" feeling. Suggestions of all kinds are welcome. What do you guys think?

[BTW people, don't rep me for unfinished works like this one, it tends to promote my procrastination]

the mask is really awesome, but the body seems a bit too generic to me.

This reminds me I need to get off my arse and release our HC#4 entry :<

Looks great so far, agreed with dust's comments. The chest and arms don't really look fire-y or dancer-y enough at the moment though. Plus the bracers are kinda dull... what about the grass bits you have on the legs?

Also his hands look like they're bigger than his feet :x

Does that mean I should do something similar to the legs on the bracers... or that the legs are evil too?

His hat kinda looks way more high res than the rest of his armour.

Also you MUST add a cast anim that involves blowing flames of the staff or something XD.

My 2 cents

Actually, I'm glad about that, this means that probably Mc! is planning to have the portrait animations included in the model... it's great for space-saving.

Overall, the model is very nice, the feet seem very small though, maybe you'd better make them more like the Headhunter's, anyway... GJ, happy to see new quality models coming up.

His body looks a little bulky for a troll and he looks more like an orc. Remember, trolls are more slim and tall which is why they are so agile.

Aight if it's said by the guy with a troll on the avatar, it HAS to be true!

Hehe. I would like to correct myself - it is mostly only true for Jungle Trolls. The most noteworthy exception is probably the Forest Trolls, who are more muscular - yet they are still quite tall and nothing as bulky. Well, take a look at the attachment on this post, you'll see what I mean.

Also, don't forget to make him hunched over in the animations, please. This is a major problem when using in-game animations, but since you're going to scratch-animate(you are, right?), you should attempt to retain the troll-ish feel by making him hunched over in the animations, in my opinion.

Oh, and in-case I haven't said that yet - great job on the model, I am certainly waiting for release! ^^

Also, is it using in-game textures only?

Of course, it isn't easy to find any fire dancing anims in Wc3.

Fluff
I really like the improvement from the first screenshot to the one with more grass. The first one seemed to have too many colors, whereas the second is more cogent. You might consider more team color like maybe on his ankles or on that loin flap thing.

But it's awesome regardless!
