Is it wrong to do small edits to custom models (like, changing an in-game texture with another, transforming a hero model into a unit model or fixing broken animations) without asking for permission and only for personal use if the modeler is long gone? I'm quite confused about this so I'd like to hear your opinions. |

I always had to do small modifications on models so they can fit in the map, but nothing that change it in a whole. I think that's ok. |

Some might argue against it, but really, if the modeler is long gone and you're not trying to steal their work... Nothing wrong with it, far as I see. |

Technically, running a model/texture/script through an optimizer is changing/modifying the resource. In my opinnion, if you do optimize, you should provide links to the original resources with a note saying the ones included are not originals, but optimized/changed to fit. |

Happy to agree. =) Quote:
I also do that... well, at least the note-thing, for fairness. |

Yes, it's morally debatable. The general conses is that it's fine though. |

just leave reference to original, fixing map model texture or script cannot cause any harm. |
