Taking the Galaxy Editor very seriously

Hey everyone,

First I just want to introduce myself, this post might be long so my apologies in advance.

My name is Toby, I'm currently #1 in my platinum division for SC2 as well as the #1 Zerg in North America.
For about a year I've been making WC3 and now SC2 videos and uploading them on youtube..
If you want to check out some of my games here's a link to my youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/perfectionistemblem
There are games vs David Kim and Matt Cooper from Blizzard and also SC1 semi-pro's.

Anyways, I spent a lot of time preparing for SC2 before beta was out and was planning on playing it competitively but I haven't been enjoying the game enough to continue playing it for 14~ hours/day and go pro etc..
Since I went to Blizzcon it has been in the back of my mind that it would be a lot of fun to take the Galaxy Editor extremely seriously and so currently I'm studying hard everyday to become as familiar as possible with the World Editor, while trying to focus on the skills that I think will best transfer over to Galaxy.

I'm planning on treating Galaxy as my job with at least 50 hour work weeks etc (which would be a decrease from how much I've been playing SC2 since it was out)

I'm basically trying to meet other people who have similar ambitions with the program as well as the means to carry out their ambitions. Once Galaxy is out I'll be following every tutorial that's released, making tutorials of my own and spending all day learning every aspect of the program.

Until it's out, if anyone thinks they can help me out in any way to learn important and 'Galaxy-relevant' skills within the WC3 Editor I would be be extremely grateful.

EDIT: Bribe removed.

50 a week is a bit much :P

But I understand your sentiment and I myself am going to be making some badass maps.

I just hope you don't multi-post every thought that you get...

I have a bunch of game ideas I want to run with in sc2, so I will surely be modding. I don't think 50 hours worth though...

On this site you're going to find all of the most skilled WC3 modders. Most of them will probably transition over to SC2 once it comes out. However, you probably won't find anyone who is planning to treat Galaxy editing as a full-time job. Personally, I wouldn't mind making some money from mapping in the future, but I'm by no means convinced that it's going to become a practical way to make a living (as developing iPhone apps, flash games, etc. can be). We need more details about how the system is going to work, and we have to see whether the Battle.net community is going to embrace paying for stuff that was previously free if it means higher quality.

I think you're going to wind up getting burnt-out if you attempt to program for 50 hours a week, anyhow. There's a major productivity curve when it comes to programming. You will often get more done in 2 hours of focused effort than you do in the remaining 8.

Anyway, if you work at WC3 modding, a lot of those skills should carry over to the Galaxy editor. Many things about the new language looks similar to JASS. And I hope you completely skipped GUI and went straight to JASS tutorials. GUI is pointless to learn.

There is a similar post like this (exactly the same first post) on The Hive. I think he just wants people to look at his YouTube videos. The only difference is on The Hive Cassiel got all rattled up and started arguing with a "Mr. Cheese". Sometimes I just don't know about certain people :P

Yeh spamming everywhere that he's going to take the editor very serious is pretty... uh pointless?
And I agree, he revers a lot to his YouTube vids, probably just advertising.
