Race-Building Workshop

I really liked the race-building contests on this site, but in the last time the official contests died out. After I read Archmage's post I decided to start my own RBC. It's inofficial therefore you won't get a nice Icon or lots of +rep - except the mods decide to make it official. But prices shouldn't be the main reason to take part in any contest (my oppinion).
THEME:
DIFFERENT BASE-MECHANICS LIKE HARVESTING, RECRUITING, BUILDING, WHATEVER COMPARED TO THE USUSAL RACES
OPTIONAL THEME (for those who need; needn't to be used): SUBGROUP OF THE BURNING LEGION (like scourge are)
Rules:
- use the standart contest-map (simple TurtleRock)
- you're allowed to use as many systems and icons as you want, as long as you proper credit them
- you're only allowed to use maximal 5 imported textures/models, where custom models with custom textures count as 2 imports
- you're not allowed to use more than 500kb of imports and your map-size must be below 750kb
- max 2 users per team
- at least 1 pic where all of your units and buildings can be seen

Design rules:
- No more than 1 tier per submitted race.
- No more than 1 hero per submitted race.
- No more than 8 structures per submitted race.
- No more than 10 units per submitted race.
- Each race must have a building that fills each of the following roles:
- Hero Altar
- Food Supply
- Defense Tower
- Town Hall
- Either different recruiting, gold, lumber, food generation or other base mechanics compared to the standard-races.
- Don't steal ideas, though races can have the same theme
- Races can be anything, including those races not already in WC3 such as Critters or Farm Animals or whatever.

Deadline: 08.08.2010 (11:59PM, GMT-5)
Extentions possible

The winner is decided by the users via a poll. Voting thread will be generated when the contest is finished with the full list of all voteable races.

Upload the finished map in your pastebin and PM me. I'll insert the link in the table below.

I recommend the use of Archmage's Custom Race System!

Ah, well, nice theme I guess, but I was thinking more like... "Warcraft Races", "Mechanical", "Airborne", "Northrend" etc... But yeah, I might join. Not sure though.

I want it to be really inovating, races that differ not only in their units/buildings

Okay, well, better try to advertise it. :P

About the systems: Any regulations? The standard approved by wc3c or something else?

Tot
you can use self-written or wc3c-scripts/systems. you must only proper credit them

This sounds like fun. Think I'll try to come up with something.

To the drawing board, I guess.

Edit: Can I ask what the reasoning behind the Tier-1-only rule was? By the general pattern, that means two basic fighters, a siege unit, a defensive structure, a couple of upgrades and an inability to make the good stuff.

It's 10 units for tier 1 so I guess it's less "tier 1" than ONE tier. So you can skip the techtree part and concentrate on the rest.

I was going to berate you for saying "inofficial", but it turns out that's a real word.

...and that's not really a theme. It's really more of a guideline/rule.

I personally hate themes, they restrict creativity in a stupid manner (my oppinion)

update added an "theme"

Well my point was that a race that DOESN'T modify the base systems in some way is probably going to be seen as unoriginal or at the very least not particularly inventive.

I'd disagree with you, Tot. Having a theme actually makes you think, and helps get those creative juices flowing. However, it is your choice, but if I were you, I'd make it a requirement to have your race be a sub-race of the BL.

I let it as it is, i will not punish anyone not making a sub-race of the Burning Legion, as long as his idea is original and creative. That should always have the highest priority
