Hey, I don't get this

Yo, I downloaded the stuff the tutorial said I needed for spell editing stuff....

However, I have a problem with the MPQ extractor thing. I downloaded War3Explorer, but whenever I try to use it, I get an error that says:

"-Application Error

The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000135). Click on Ok to terminate the application"

Have you already installed "Microsoft .NET Framework"? In order to run War3Explorer you have to download it (20.9 MB !) and install it. I think the link can be found in the readme.

Yeah, I did, but the .net thingy doesn't work either. I tried to open it, and it claimed that "it isn't a valid win32 application"

Should I keep it somewhere specifically? Last time I installed it onto my desktop...

I assume that you have 56K (like me :nono:).

Please explain exactly what you did and what happened. You can't install it on your desktop, you can only put it on yous desktop. Then you've double-clicked it, right? What happened then?

Anyway, won't it download faster if I already have all the files?

No because if the files really are corrupted the computer won't be able to tell where so you'd have to redownload everything entirely. Low bandwidth connections sometimes recieve corrupted packets.

POS 56K!!! Grrr... Well, I guess I'll have to get on that then. Everything had better work once I redownload this...

I'd advise you to use a Download Manager like GetRight. The main advantage is a bit more speed and if a download is being aborted for any reason (user abort or some error), you can resume it at any time. Plus you don't need to download everything at the same time, you can start a download, download a bit, pause it, resume it on the next day,...

Ok... I'll use that thingy next time. Wish I had checked back before I went ahead and redownloaded teh stupid program...


Anyways, everything went smoothly until I ran into my next junction. The tutorial tells me to open up the war3patch.mpq file and re-extract those .txt files so I can have the upgraded versions.

Er... where is this war3patch.mpq? Its not listed with the other .mpq files, unless its under a different name or something.

And please, oh god please, do not tell me this program might not be able to open it. The blood of the innocent will flow if this is so...

My next problem is that there doesn't seem to be all the txt files... Uh, like the human funct one. There is one for neutral and ud though...

Er, yeah. Uh, I mentioned this before somewhere, but I don't have excel... Is this gonna make things difficult?

And when I tried to make a new ability, I got an error message and the spell editor shut down...

not all of the files are in war3patch.mpq, because not all of them have been changed. If a file you need isn't in war3patch.mpq, grab it from war3.mpq.

Not having Excel is not a problem. If you did have excel, there would be no reason to use one of the spell editor programs.

Uh... Ok. SO I can just edit spells in the editer? I mean, when I was shcrewin aroun in there, I saw that I could mess with some of the spells. But the editor closes itself down everytime I click "New Spell"

Editing it in the editor would be hard for a newbie like you. Do you have any other spreadsheet editor? Do you have some office software installed on your PC? If so, tell me which one and I tell you if you can edit SLKswith it or not.
