Help with 1x1 Pathing Map

I've read a number of posts here, but it seems that I can't find anything that addresses the following question. Is there a way to make a 1x1 Pathing Map that actually just uses 1 of the tiny grid squares?

Now I attempted to work this one out myself before asking so maybe someone might be able to spot where/if I messed up. Reading the other posts I found that you can make pathing maps by simply creating a TGA file of whatever dimensions (in this case I made a 1x1 magenta {255,0,255} square) and imported that path map into the editor. Then I copied a pathing blocker and tried to use that to make a 1x1 pathing blocker. What the picture shows below is that the 1x1 pathing blocker actually works in that I was only able to place it in the upper right corner of each 2x2 grid. I've tried barrels, mushrooms, all kinds of different doodads, units, etc etc, and it seems that the problem is that for some reason the editor won't recognize objects of 1x1 size.

I'm at a loss here and I hope that maybe it's something simple that I've missed. Thank you for your time.

Nope, placing anything is locked to the 2x2 grid. The best you can do is make four variations, with the one square in each corner.

So... then if I wanted to have the flexibility of covering any of those 4 squares at any time I'd need 16? different combinations of pathing maps which would basically make this a no go. (especially if I wanted to include doodads and what not)

Why on earth did Blizzard make the grid like that if they had no intentions of taking advantage of the grid?!?!

EDIT: Actually... one would only need 15 pathing maps (the other one would be blank)... so if I wanted to, I could use the pathing maps in the areas where I wanted to block movement and then use doodads with mushroom pathing (aka none) to make it look like that was what was blocking the path... not too shabby an idea.

Well, the 1x1 grid does work in terms of unit pathing. My favourite trick is to stick a 2x2 in the middle of a 4x4 unbuildable to push 2x2 doodads off the grid a bit.

If you make a 16x16 pathing map for a funny doodad or building, for example, you can take advantage of that resolution... Even though it's placed to the 2x2 grid, units will be able to move around it according to the 1x1 grid.

Short story: Blizz suck!

Also, you can extract the pathing file from the map, edit it, and put it back in. Less convenient, but it should work.

Just out of curiosity... what file would that be in the MPQ?
