Guest | Someone told me that Blizzard was considering the spell editors to against Battle.net's user agreement thing, and that they had banned some people for using it. I haven't really heard any specific warnings or anything from Blizzard, nor have I heard of anyone banned before. So, is this true? |

Guest | I hadn't heard anything about it... But thats why I use this name in my map designs, and not my one on B.net. :D |

They are smoking crack. Spell editors are nothing but pretty interfaces for editing symbolic link files (SLK), which blizz doesn't own. |

they are probably just saying that casue they want you to wait for their spell editor to come out:gfu: |

If you want to be extremely technical about it... Blizzard owns all rights to Warcraft III, you technically don't even own the game, you are merely "borrowing" it for a fee (the price you payed) This also incudes the the slk files Blizzard created that you are editing, which is technically in breech of the EULA because editing the game in any way is in breech of the EULA. Battle.net is a privately owned network and Blizzard may do what they wish with it, including banning accounts and CD keys for any reason. Blizzard may also be able to say that the use of custom files in a map not validated by WE(i.e. .wav or .mp3 files) could be an attempt to spread a virus through Battle.net and therefore should not be allowed. Just a counter arguement =P |

Even Blizzard wouldn't use such convoluted logic. |

They probally wouldn't, but those statements are true and would hold up in court. |

Sure, and after court they would be bankrupt because WOW and War3X would flop as a result of unhappy consumers. |

Do you see anything in the EULA that says that you cannot edit files created by the World Editor cannot be edited by anything else? I've read the EULA, and while I may have missed it, I'm pretty sure there isn't. If the case is just that I missed it, someone just post the section that blocks that, and I'll tell you how to get around it legally. |

I know about the EULA, because I read it. I think it is not possible to spread a virus over Battle.net. If it IS possible, then explain me how (theoretically; I'm not planning to do that because I don't want to risk to get permanently banned). In addition to this you can modify their files and distribute them as long as you don't sell it for money. Blizzard won't take measures against any non hacking action as long as you don't sell it for money, despite of the fact that it is illegal to modify their files, though. |

knightking: I am talking about the files originally created by Blizzard, which are copyrighted, that you are editing. Also, the MPQ file format is also copyrighted, so modifiying any MPQ files is also in turn, illgeal unless you have expressed written consent from Blizzard. StarCraftFreak: They had a bug in one of the SC editors that would let you import any file into an scm, which could be potentionally dangerous. Possibly a worm could be effective if you could get the map to be validated with the game. |

People should do what they want on custom maps just as long as they dont **** around on ladder |
