No item shops in dungeon.

I am toying with the idea of removing all item shops from a dungeon to make it more "realistic" dungeon crawler.

Was thinking of champion class creeps dropping health and mana potions and bosses dropping stronger items.

Ideas? Suggestions?

EDIT:
Tried it and it has too many balancing problems, guess I will stick to bounty and shops.

Out of curiosity, what problems did you run into.

Just to put it into context: I tried this in (4)vsUndead

I made champions drop mana and hp potions and bosses drop scrolls and tomes.

I reduced item charges on potions because there were a lot of drops.

At first it was interesting to save up your hp/mana until you kill a champion, but it soon turned out that on higher levels champions need to drop higher level pots,
so I needed to create more pot items.

Than I realized that because you cannot buy items any more and all items you get are drops there will be a problem with item sharing (selfish player idiocy)

Solution could be to drop more items than one player could carry so all could have some,
but too many scrolls and tomes would create really big imbalance.

Another solution could be to give items directly to heroes when boss is killed,
but that way people could not see fancy item models I use for all items

Also players would have to trade items if for example STR hero got INT tome and the like.
And if I did not randomize items it would be boring.

So I guess item shops + bounty are perfect solution.
It is also very very easy to balance, because I control how many creeps spawn in each dungeon and how many bounty they give and from that I can calculate appropriate item prices.
It also gives players more control about what items they want to use.

All in all shops are great.

dungeons, given their size and complexity, would have economies too (think of all the gold in them) so i don't see any issue with having occasional Wee' Shoppes'
