I have noticed some old members hanging around here regularly and some of them actually seem to be working on their maps.

I would like to remind you all that early testing is very important.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOUR MAP IS FINISHED TO POST IT INTO MAP TESTING SECTION.

You can make a test version even at 5% finished game, here is an example of that

The faster you make a test version, the faster your ideas will get feedback.

It is very easy to fix design mistakes in early phase of map development.
(and trust me you will have those, everybody does)

It is very hard to fix them when map is already done,
so save yourself a lot of time and effort and make early betas.

It does not matter if your map does not look good at the moment, if terrain is non existent or if you have only 3 heroes out of 200 planned
(here is another example for that )

Post your betas and don't be afraid of brutal feedback,
because that is the only kind of feedback that you will get,
so it is better to get it after 3 months than after 3 years of development.
It is also the only way to make your maps better.

I dunno man.

On one hand, I'd love to get feedback & get/keep people excited... But on the other hand, progress is so slow, I hate to disappoint... More importantly, the nature of a custom races/heroes (Altered Melee, basically) is such that the minor bug-fixes are a big deal, but a lot of the other stuff is a bit different.

Anyway, we'll see. The activity here also concerns me (or lack thereof), but maybe I can get something quick & dirty put up here for looking at.

i use a lot of custom races but i also listen to what people say. i specialize in altered melee and use testing to balance the map but, my projects is very different from each others. when i use a race in more than one project i use new ideas each time.
