World Editor is completely Silent

It took me a while to notice, but it appears that world edit no longer makes any sounds. Meaning, no startup music, no placement sound and, most annoyingly, the sound editor is basically unusable. I'm not 100% sure when this started, either, since I hadn't used the sound editor in ages before this, but it was fairly recently.

I'm also a bit unfamiliar with windows 7 (which I recently started running), so if this could be an external issue, that's also possible. However, I do know that the sound was working for at least a little while after upgrading, so it wasn't the update itself that broke world edit.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

File -> Preferences -> Sound?

besides what fledermaus suggested,
if you use JNGP (Jass New Gen Pack) there's another option called "Mute editor sounds" under tab "Grimoire". I'm not 100% sure, but i think it's activated by default. Try deactivating it.

Preferences indicate that the sound is turned up almost to max for the editor.

I'm using the default world editor. I guess I could try switching to JNGP (which is probably something I should do anyway).

EDIT: Sound works in JNGP.

you should keep using the default editor if you want to avoid trouble with blizzard. the warcraft 3 engine have a sound problem but restarting the editor should fix it. if that doesnt help you should restart the computer.

i am certainly not a troll. i have been in dialogue with blizzard regarding vjass and they said that they dont allow hacking of maps and that they dont condone the use of a third party program.(i tried to convince them to accept vjass but they wouldnt.) as for the editor losing sound, that could happen if you turn the sound off and then on or leave it running long enough though the game wouldnt be affected because they use separate executables.

Pretty sure dota used vjass, and they actually made exceptions for it in the early days of patch 1.24.
Nevermind that they actually don't give a shit about wc3 anymore..

If all else fails, just re-install Warcraft 3.

reinstalling warcraft 3 might work but it doesnt solve all problems so the problem could in fact remain. my suggestion is to try to recreate the error in order to trace it and then solve the cause.

Talking with Blizzard?? Pics nao. :P

Speaking of which, I have a hard time forcing myself to move over to using JNGP. Any ways to ease the transition?

You're right, the interfaces are (blessedly) similar... It's just the whole opening & closing map files, making things work right, the new Trigger Editor really scares me...

Maybe you have it muted in your Sound Mixer?
Run World Editor and check if the sound is muted here:
