After experiencing almost 5 different Helms Deep Maps on Battle.net, I found myself very disappointed. They all..well..just plain sucked. So I decided to create my own. My only problem is I can't host games on B.net (Yes, I have tried everything Blizzard has said about routers and such, still doesn't work) and I'm looking for people willing to dl my map and beta test it! Also, I would really like to add a cool intro to my map, only problem is I'm really not that great at cinematography and script and stuff. It would be great if someone would be willing to work on a an into. If you give me your e-mail address, I will send you an undedited version of the map. Also, for those of you have always had ideas about a Helms Deep Map, they would be greatly appreciated. Thank You! ~Newbie Map Maker (But still a pro 8) ) IngeniousMask |

Guest | I don't mind testing your map if you are in need of Beta Testers. I will help fix your problem with not being able to host on battle.net I had same problem and I fixed it and now I can host servers left and right with no problems. I just need to know how your nextwork is set-up and bands used to connect all the computers up and I can tell you how to do it step by step. |

Well strike, It would be great if you could help me, blizzard has failed to do so. Well, basically I have two computers hook up to a linksys etherfast dsl router (not wireless) which then share a DSL modem. I could find out more info if you would like. I need to protect my map and then I will upload it. Thanx for all the help. Still looking for someone who would like to try to do a cinematic for intro, you would get your name on the map! ~IngeniousMask (not igeniousmask :ggani: ) |

Here is the protected version of the map for beta testing. I already know it may have some balance issues and it does not have ladders in it (I'm still trying to work out an efficient way to implement them, any suggestions??) It would be great if you could test this map and e-mail me back the bugs. My e-mail adress is [email protected]. Thanks for all the help! ~IngeniousMask |

Get Zep's Editor and remove some pathing before the walls, this way units will "walk" right up the walls. :D |

Thanks Tearsong, I'll be sure to check this out! |

Seems as if the Zepir link is down in the dl section. If anyone has the editor and could upload it for me to dl, that would be great. ~IngeniousMask:gsmile: |

Hey tearsong, this editor is confusing. Might you be able to tell me how to remove pathway from the wall? |

Alright, lemme open it up so I can do it step by step... 1) Open Zepir's Editor 2) On the top toolbar look for an Icon that shows two feet, creating foot prints, and click on it. 3) A new tool bar should come up, with various options like no walk. 4) On the far right hand side, it will have different things that are viewable. Make sure pathing is, and it helps to have terrain OFF so you can see better. 5) Find the section of wall you want to make walkable, it should be pink. On your path toolbar, where it says something about No Walk/Not Walkable, etc., click on that until it says WALKABLE. 6) Paint the areas that you want to make walkable, save it, and test it out, but dont resave in WE or your pathing changes will be lost. Hope it helps. |

Guest | The main problem with Helms Deep maps online is that there's no strategy and no tactics. They're just plain boring. Add to that the fact that most of them are terrible mappers and they're gauranteed to suck. Some things you should watch out for: 1: Too many units spawned The whole map can get clogged up and it turns it into a big *** slug fest with battles that last 5 minutes on end. 2: Not enough variety in units A map that lets you build 2 unit types will get boring fast 3: Simplistic mapping Leaves little room for strategy or just plain variety in gameplay from server to server. There's probly lots more but those are the ones I see most often. |

Most helms deep maps completely suck. They are awful. The terrain sucks, the untis are dumb, and there is a frigin time limit. :P anyway, definately think about this: The biggest problem (i think) is the utterly crappy and boring terrain the maps out there have. if you can make good terrain, have 6-8 units at least for every team, and do some cool effects, youve got it. |

Well guys, thanks for the suggestions. I tried to make my terrain as intersting as possible, but I am still working on it. I wanna add some more details in it, that is why it is in beta and needs suggestions. I'll take the idea about adding more unit types, also, what other way than a 20 minute time limit could I have? I was thinking about implementing a dialog allowing the host (player 1) to choose the game length and type (Have a heros and units type and just a heroes type). Also, I was wondering how to edit the minimap to give it a custom pic on preview screen. I am still looking for someone to do a cool intro as well! Thanks for all the help ~IngeniousMask |

About this problem, I have noticed it may be a probelm in my map to because I haven't balanced it a lot yet. Do you think making units die very quickly would fix this problem? This would allow clogged units to move up faster and allow constant more ordering troops instead of just sitting and waiting. Let me know if you have any other suggestions. Also, tearsong, the pathing under the wall already says it can be walked on. Any other way I can make it so units walk up walls?? ~IngeniousMask |
