Guest | Once .... hmm its really long time ago ... not long after wc3 retail was out. One of my friends whispered me, cause he found the coolest wc3 map ever. He found "Aeon of Strife 2 fixed". It was a cool map, created by Dragon_King and Kor_Illidan (hmm not sure if i spell them right). The players could select a hero one of the 12 basic heroes and join team1 to fight vs the stronger team2. The differences between those teams were that team2 was only a computer, but with cats and random ambushes at one of the 3 paths.. the shop had not more than tomes, pots and ankhs. Still it was _crappy_ triggered and the terrain was garbage. But it was fun :-) A while after this guys released the Player vs Player version that sucked like hell. Cause no more new player vs computer version showed up, I started recreating a map like this.. but not THAT crappy. While I added 6 "new" heroes (switched abilities and balanced em in hours and hours and hours of testing), random computer heroes that attack, gain lvl and items and had the abilities to be real bitches, slowly the first teamVSteam AoS edits came out. My map got never really popular, but I still get mails with people asking for new versions and mailing bugs and that makes me really happy and proud. But I stopped working on it long time ago, it was no more worth it (the terrain was garbage, too) and that f... disc-bug was in one of my triggers. I kept messing around with small halfdone maps (Gnoll RPG, someone played my alpha? serveral small tower defs, a survival with unique techtrees depending on the heroes u pick, ..., ...). Then Quality-AoS maps showed up (Rival Nations, Lords of Strife, valley of diss, DotA) Some time ago I decided to start a new AoS map, inspired by the quality aos maps. Most other (even the high quality ones) were never what I really wanted. First I started messing around with a map and some small ideas. After I had the terrain finished I look at it and thought: that sucks. So I dropped it and started making a new unique mapstyle. Basicly I thought at that one singleplayer mission. Arthas defends a town vs the undead. That give me the Idea of mixing an Multiplayer RPG with a defense map. Towers, Units, Heroes, Waves and Quests and .. blah blah. Whatever. I got my Idea and started mapping. When I created the hill for my village, I dropped it again and created a Graveyard in a snowy enviroment. I added 3 new heroes with 4 new spells each, a new unique statsystem, a little tech tree and units and created a mix of waves and quests. You defend the graveyard while slowly destroying outposts of the human, ... while editing I used weibbes spell editor, i bugged my AbilityData .. i didnt knew why my map lagged soooo bad. But I didnt want to recreate it. So I started a snowy cold map, inspired by a CD named Nordland. Short after I decided to recycle my Crypt Defense Heroes and make it a 2 team aos map. I also recycled the new stat system and stuff.. The terrain got great feedback and I think it looks awesome cool :-P After I had 6 new heroes rdy, the basic units and got the first waves running, I found out that the terrain sucks badly for a AoS style map the way I wanna create it. Now I just cannot find any ideas how I should make the paths. My ally inspired me to make a 3-way-aos like rivals. But I just dont get anything running now. (and its kinda frustrating to create a new map, after u made a good one in hours and hours of mapping) I BADLY need some ideas how to path a 2 or 3 team aos... where to place the bases... if I should add small bases to hold (hmm .. nearly like the obelisks in valley) and stuff... I got a crapload of theorethic and already done heroes, tons of ideas how the gameplay will/should be, how to include rpg elements, quests and so much more done already in my mind.. But I dont get the IDEA of the terrain... into something I can map... :-( Help me pls ... ... and sorry for the long post, lol :-) |

Bloodlust, I believe the map you were referring to in the beginning of your post was redone and now under the name of Blood and Steel. I have the latest version (I think, can't keep up when for every version there's about 15 subsequent sub-versions of that version for just about every map on Bnet) on my comp and IMO it's a great deal more fun then many p vs p AoS style maps. Atleast the terrain has improved ^_^ As for your predicament, an innovation I had for when I once tried my hand at an AoS map was for air-dropped reinforcements. In addition to all the normal barracks spawns there would be some sort of 'aerial support' structure in which a zeppelin or similar flying unit would fly back and forth between the support centre and regions on the battlefield to deploy troops into the fray. I even started an edited skin for it, but that little experiment was long dropped, so the idea is free-for-use :). ~kharma |

Guest | Hehe thank you :-) This guy did some good and some bad work: 1.He changed all my heroes to garbage >:-/ The Heroes he changed and added just suck. 2.Seems like he made the enemy heroes weaker. I killed em always ubereasy. The old ones had alot higher stats :-D 3.This map is just so-easy-that-every-pansy-newb-can-beat-it. The old map had necros with MANABURN and RAISE DEAD at lvl-6. At this point the game was lost in a few minutes if the teamwork wasnt good. - Beside that he had some cool ideas, fixed minor bugs and gave the simple terrain a new look with nice detail work as the lake there. And I should have respect, tweaking my triggers was really hard for sure :-D Anyway, thanks for sending - I enjoyed playing the edit with a improved terrain. |
