Guest | When I was reading the various tutorials that you wonderful people here at wc3campaigns have provided, one of the things I noticed was that you cannot include abilitydata.slk into any map files. This severely limited my options, so I thought up other ways. So then I figured.. what the heck, why not try to include it anyway. I altered some things, such as changing the starfall damage to 9999 per wave and lowering the cost of summon water elemental to 50 mana. To my surprise, the new data worked, both offline AND on b.net. So there you have it. Is this a recent change that blizzard made? In any case, a little heads up to change that info on the tutorials: adding files to .w3m archives tutorial (and another one I think). You CAN change abilitydata.slk and include it into the maps. :ggani: |

This is well known. It's been like that since 1.04 methinks. |

Guest | Well, you guys ought to modify the tutorials so that you don't mislead new map modders. |

Whenever i try to use AbilityData.slk in my maps the game gets unbearably laggy around 1 frame per 5 or 6 seconds anywon know why that might happen? it happens even if I dont modify the file but all my txt files work fine |

No idea. I have little knowledge of how war3 actually interprets abilitydata.slk, but is it possible that it dynamically reads the information whenever an ability is activated and therefore lags the game while reading it? mooV-Cow: Yes, many of the 'official' tutorials here are out of date. But if you read the ones stickied here in the forums (particularly sid67's) you would realise that it is already noted. What I'm more curious about is whether or not any of the miscdata.txt files are now importable with patch 1.05, though I sincerely doubt it as certain information deals with out-of-map settings. Ohwell, I'll get around to testing it one day. ~kharma |

What the hell? I've always been able to import AbilityData.slk..... |

Fyre: Yes, but it wouldn't have had any impact in the game prior to 1.04. ~kharma |

... hmm maybe it WAS after 1.04 afterall.... lol |

You could make it have an effect pre-1.04, you just had to delete it from the war3 mpqs. |

Yes you could but why would you want to?:gsmile: ~kharma |

Guest | There are old tutorials with old info that are a little misleading. Maybe the older tuts should be removed. The one written by sid67 (Spell editing 101) is the best tut IMO. that one should be sticky and the older ones deleted. |
