Does anyone have some suggestions on how to make music size smaller? I have dramadically lowered the bit rate of all my music, but it seems that if i go much past 40 bit, then it tends to sound like a warped record, in a broken/scratchy record player... :bgrun:

If at all its possible to make it smaller without it sounding like someone talking in slo-mo, could someone tell me how to make music file size's smaller? Im sure there's a way. emote_sweat

It sounds obvious, but if you have looping music (from a game, say) make sure you only have a single loop in there. With vocal tracks, though, you're really stuck - there's only so much you can compress sound before quality starts to suck.

Well...This is metroid prime music. The music is on-going, and it has different beats all the way through.....So really, its hard to edit the music to make it shorter. :bgrun:

Even if I did know how to edit sound, to make sure it doesnt loop, i wouldnt know the process, or programs needed to cut out unneeded beats. Ack...... :(

Just how long is the sound and what's it's size? You could probably find another mp3 that would fit your map, even if it isnt Metroid.

No comment....The music im using is directly from metroid prime....Plus I really dont think that using different music is the issue. Its more of an issue with not being able to edit the existing music files that I already have. I need to know what programs are needed....and maybe a little on how to cut parts out of music.
Also, with music and without anything else custom, its 1992 megs. Please help me. Thats with just 2 of the 4 songs I want on there.

Really though, If i could just edit them, and make them 1/4 of what they were, then i would be fine. :D

Sheesh, don't they teach kids how to search on google anymore? Anyway, I use a program called mp3trim to slice my music so that it only loops once. Even so, and even with my bitrate at 64, I can just get under 500kb/minute of music. I could do a bit better if I went to 48, but you're really hitting a wall there. There's just no way an mp3 can take less than the level of a few hundred k/min. No magic will dramatically compress to say 50k/min and still have it sound great. On the other hand, there's a thread on here someplace about using midi in a map. I myself have little knowledge of it, but my impression is that at the cost of adding a file that's about 2-3 Mb, you can *then* add any number of midis to your map to you heart's content.

In that case you can check up on what Ari said. You might also already have a program that allows you to edit music. For example, I use Creative recorder, although it is very limited. It still gets the job done.
