I just figured out something interesting. I haven't found this possibility in the WE and I haven't seen any post about that so I share what I've found. If you already know it I'm sorry. Since I just figured it out, I assume I'm not the only one who didn't know. You can have 2 different pictures: -one for the "in game" minimap -and one for the menus (when you start a new game and select a map) To do so, you'll have to make a 256x256 TGA (YMCK format) called "war3mapPreview.tga" and just add it in your W3M map file using a MPQ editor. Once again, I just figured it out so if you know how to do it with the WE, feel free to explain! |

Hmm... I assume it shows the preview one when the map is loading? Hmm.... I think you might've stumbled upon something to answer an earlier issue on this board. Remember how everyone was up and arms over map stealing? Well, when you save in WE it throws out any files it's not familiar with, so you could make the image something like "This map made by Dataangel" and a little pic of you or something. Then whenever a map stealer, most likely not having the technical profiency to figure out how to change that or too lazy to put it back in after every save, goes and tries to steal your map, you'll know it's an altered copy. If enough people do this it could be accepted as a standard seal or something.... I'm sure there's a cleverer way to do this, but basically we now have something that will change when someone resaves your map. A mechanism. |

No it's not during the loading screen! It's where you select the map. But your idea is interesting. The only problem is if the guys know how to use a MPQ editor and knows which file to remove... Still interesting though.... |
