*NB: If you have not played the Campaign, this will contain spoilers* This is quite a long post, but I think I've thought up a decent idea here so hang with me. This post is about an idea I thought someone might like to adopt. I'm not much of a mapper myself because I have no persistance whatsoever, so I wouldn't dare trust myself heading a project. So for this reason I'm going to offer the basis of my idea, in the hope that some talented mappers can take it and turn it into a decent campaign. I feel it's a good idea, and after playing several campaigns, has alot of potential to be one of the better ones out there (no offense intended). If you're still interested, here is my basic concept: Story Prologue: The campaign is based in the Warcraft 3 Universe and is set some several months after the destruction of Lord Archimonde. To help replenish the tired energies of Ashenvale, 4 Magically Enchanted Trees of Eternity were erected around each side of the World Tree. These trees channel energy to the land around them, regrowing and restoring life to the land. However, as the land heals, the orcs and humans continue to cut down the trees to support their way of life and evolution. For each tree that grew, one is cut down. The elves, while not pleased with this, chose to tolerate them for the sakes of retaining the alliance. Each of the 4 trees had a large city built around it, where many chose to bask in the life-giving energies of the 4 trees. But as the powers of the Night Elves weakened, their mortal lives drawing ever shorter, they begun to lose control of their ancients... Meanwhile, in a cave deep within the hills, lives a young elf named Vixen. Originally a commander of an archery squadron, upon hearing of the alliance, she fled to the sacred cave wanting no part of what she felt was a disgrace to Night Elvenkind. Living by herself in the hills with a family of furbolgs gave her time to hone her talents, and fulfill the age-old Night Elf way of life where they were truly a peaceful race and one with nature. Elune saw her talents, her purity, her resolve and morale, and selected her to be the next demi-god. With the descease of Cenarius, a new avatar of Gaea needed to be chosen, and the widespread corruption of the rest of the Night Elves deterred her from selecting one of the regular society. Through the god of the stars and the moon, Elune, and the god of the soil and the land, Gaea, she was granted with potential even Cenarius was not blessed with. She was given the ability to shapeshift, between the Strong Bear, the Agile Wolf, and the Intelligent Crow. Also, becoming an avatar of Gaea, she was granted the power to call upon mother Gaea herself, which heals the land and summons a power based on how much damage was done to the land (description of this later on). As an avatar of Gaea, Vixen can be likened to an Ancient. Ancients are the land and Gaea in work, so she was blessed with the ability to speak to the ancients. Similarly, they were granted the ability to speak to her. < One day, she heard a calling. A deafening, pained cry, of an ancient breaking free from the shackles of the weakening Night Elf powers. This was the first cry she had heard in the many months she had her powers. Her mind clarified, and once the haze was lifted, she heard, it was the combined cry of the four blessed Eternities...> *Insert campaign here* =D Now, a quick rundown on how I hope Vixen will work: Default Unit: Shandris Model - Begins the game immediately at level 10, with the ability to shapeshift into all 3 forms and cast Mother Gaea. - Possibly to remove the issue of wierd shapeshifting (where the unit simply changes), the hero is sorrounded by a cloud of electricity (a.l.a. Feral Spirit). - Mother Gaea is a summoning spell. Upon using it and detecting it with triggers, the number of trees cut down/killed, the number of corpses spilled, and the number of critters/creeps killed is tallied (possibly, a running total will be kept in the corner). Then a trigger-based spell is cast pending on how much damage has been done, and the damage is set to 0. If I get enough popularity from these posts I'll suggest some trigger-ideas for Mother Gaea. Shape Form: The bear - Strength emphasis hero. - Spells are largely offensive, and is the hero hard-hitter. - Has a default aura that improves attack damage slightly. - Can change back to Vixen at will. Shape Form: The wolf - Agility emphasis hero. - Spells are largely sly and clever (Wind walk, evasion, etc.), and is good for one-on-one and killing individual units. - Has a default aura that movement rate largely. Shape Form: The crow (I would prefer a land hero, but can't think of a suitable one at the moment) - Intelligence emphasis hero. - Spells are augmentative and very powerful. - Has a default aura that improves health/mana regen. I have the first 5 or so missions planned out, and will post them if I get a decent response. Anyway I've given you enough reading time, ideas/opinions appreciated! Edit: Just quickly, here is what I can offer for the campaign. - 'Ideas man', I know everyone is one, but anyway =P - Graphics for spell buttons. - Web hosting and a web site for the campaign. - Some trigger/terrain work if nescessary. |

Guest | That powerful from the begining???? Why not make it Vixen's quest to become a Demi God? That way you don't haved a horribly powerful character from the Begining. Cenarius could have taken Archimonde if used correctly something more powerful than that would take on armies single handedly. |

I agree she sounds WAY too powerful. At least you could let her start on a lower level:bgrun: |

Nice, some replies. I thought Vixen's balancing though, but don't worry, I know a way around what you guys are talking about. (I don't think I explained it very well ^^). I don't nescessarily like the quest to become a demi-god idea because I think that could make the campaign as stagnant and boring as alot of ideas out there - the simple 'Hero's quest to <get/achieve> <something>' formula that's, to say the least, getting a bit tiresome now. When I say Vixen as a demi-god you have to keep in mind she is not a simple powerhouse like Cenarius. In her regular form (where she is already max level and can no longer level up) she'd be as powerful as, say, a Lv6/7 hero. She is only this powerful because, she was only an archer squad leader rather than a full hero like Tyrande or Furion. She starts at Lv10 because, in conjunction with the story, she has had experience in her regular form for a long time, training within the caverns. However in each of the animal forms she starts at Lv1 - because she has only recently been granted these powers. Therefore throughout the campaign you are able to level up each of her 3 forms - The bear, the wolf, and the crow. Early on it may be easier to simply use Vixen in her regular form because she is alot more powerful than the animals, but investing some experience in each of the 3 forms will help her later on in the missions when she needs their specific powers. Similarly, the difference in hero abilities gives good reason to train up all 3 forms rather than just 1. Obviously to get to Lv10 in all 3 forms is difficult, and it will require you to get all the experience you can in the maps. So, yeah, opinions on that? :D |
