Two Fully Functional Model Exporters Released

It has been over six months since Warcraft III was release plus months before that when everyone was playing the beta. Finally there is a way for us to get Blizzard level models into the game. Oddly enough both of these tools were developed independently of eachother yet happened to be completed at virtually the same time. Probably the two most widly used 3d modelling/animating applications can now be used to create Warcraft III models- 3d Studio Max and Milkshape 3d. Republicola created an export maxscript for 3ds Max and I created an export plugin for Milkshape3d. Mods with art totally independant of Blizzards can now happen.

kdub's MDL Export Plugin for Milkshape3d
Republicola's MDX Export Maxscript

Now go make a mod or something.

Do these Programs allow you to animate models?emote_sweat

kdub
of course they do!

that is the point. if they didnt let you animate then this would be nothing new.

what exactly is the use of this, cant we do this already, or is there somthing im missing.

the only animations that could be done before these two plugins were by hand in mdl
now you can do them in 3d programs which is like 100 times easier and less tedious

kdub's version seems to be messed up

[edit] I dont think it works with 4.2, the above link should work though.

So what version DOES it work with, republicola?

pigchow says he has 4.0 and gets the error. I have 4.2 and get the same error.

republicola
sry, it works with 5 and 5.1

So, what's the chances then of you working on a version that will work on 4.2, as most 3DS MAX users happen to have 4.x at this point, not 5.x

i will try and figure out what is wrong with it and 4.x, but until then you will have to have 5.x to use it - sorry
